Bikes you were disappointed with

  • Boardman CX bought to do winter commuting, lasted 2-3 months on it, I was for ever dreaming of the Carbon bike and wishing I was on that, so bought some Raceblade Longs and went back on the carbon. Would have been so much cheaper to have done that in the first place. New rules now, N+1 doesn't work for me, so one in one out.

The CX was so heavy and upright I bought in to all this hype on CX bikes being to do it all bike of choice, of course it does do it all but none of it very well. The CX wave of bikes was in the same vein as the Hybrid and just as bad!

Emily in Sixth Form*. Lots of hype and marketing, but just not built for me. Far too heavy. Good for rough-stuff though, if you're in the mood.

*Not real, of course. I went to college, but not sixth form. Surprised nobody had included something like this.

Hmm - heavy - yes mine is heavier but I can fit a rack to it, lights & mudguards are no problem, plus I can put on wider tyres (the country lanes get very wet & muddy in winter) or studs if it's icy. I'm not so bothered about crashing it or keeping it pristine.
Upright? Yes, a bit, but nothing that can't be tweaked out with a longer stem and dropped a bit - it's still not a race bike, but then that winter training with extra resistance just makes the summer rides faster! :)

Still want to be on the carbon machine though - in winter, that'll come out at the weekend - if the weather permits...

One in One out ... ? Wash your mouth out! ;)
