hi can anyone help me. just bought a garmin 810 and used it today. i used to use my phone for strava and then uploaded it at end but used a bit of battery on my phone. i bought the 810 as from what i read i was under the impression i could simply sync to my phone using the garmin connect app and then upload that to strava but on using it looks like thats wrong and to upload to strava i have to plug the computer in and upload from within strava. it connects fine to the phone and uploads to garmin but i want it on strava as well

is that correct or is there a way to do it on my phone. if i can't then i think ill be sending it back. thanks

Copymysports.com Is the only way I know of. But it's a bit dodgy at uploading rides all the time sometimes it takes hours to do

Hi, what I do is sync my garmin automatically via Bluetooth on my phone to garmin connect, then register (for free) with http://www.copymysports.com/ and that will then as long as your rides or public or your have made friends with their auto bot it will copy your latest garmin ride to strava automatically. If you like it donate as that will help the service stay alive. I have found it very good, on occasions it can be slow, but I'm guessing it depends how busy they are. I find it very good for a free service, as I finish my ride, press stop, my phone auto loads it onto connect, then quite often by the time I've put the bike away, faffed around and had a drink it's on strava, wey hey.

Thanks just found that copymysports and done it. I really thought the connect app did it as can share with facebook. Im guessing that garmin dont want you to use strava as such and use the connect as its a big ommision i think. Im tempted to send ot back

Give it time........................................................zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, or if it's old stuff do the bulk copy.. As I say free service, not always quick, but quiet often is ok

Just realised that strava only accepts activities with gps date. The one i was waiting for was a little walk in house but didn't have gps data so that would probably explain why didnt. Ill give it ago on cycle to work tommorow. Touch wood.

Competition or maybe cost to hook into them. Garmin have just launched their own segments thing. Also would be nice whilst riding to have a notice saying segment coming up, start and finish etc, maybe even with instant classification.

Probably competition. Quite a few friends are on strava and i think the segments thing works a lot better. Ill see how the copy, ysports works over next few days and then decide whether to send back or not as disappointed at present as not cheap.

Doesn't seem to be working automayically. Used it this morning and after 2 hrs still hasn't done it but on re doing it putting activity in manually was uploaded to strava in minutes

I have never got it to work automatically.

Even with my garmin rides set to public. I still have to go onto the copymysport website each ride and do it manually.

Not complaining though because it's free and does what I need it to.

Hardly a big omission! Minor irritant at worse. I don't sync with my phone when riding as I prefer to save the battery for other things. Just plug it into the PC when i get home. It auto uploads to Connect, but I have to do 3 mouse clicks to get it on strava.

Again, I prefer to name my strava uploads (e.g. 'windy ride to windmill cafe with Ian & Rich'), so wouldn't want then going up automatically anyway.

I don't sync mine with my phone when riding as also do not want to waste the battery, but I do sync it with my phone when I get home as easier than getting laptop out and plugging it in. I generally get back home, take Garmin off bike and press connect on phone at that point, then phone syncs with connect automatically, once loaded I immediately click the ride, check stats and at same time rename it within the app, then get on with putting bike away etc and with any luck it'll be synced with Strava by the time I've had a drink or a shower. If for some reason it hasn't I usually will for new rides within an hour or so.

Such a trial having to plug a lead in and click a button... Send it back, obviously not fit for purpose

I did I got rid of the 800 which was cable only to get an 810 and 510 and they're both Bluetooth which I find more convenient. Otherwise I have to get the laptop out, boot it up, invariably it wants an update, then login etc, also the wife would never manage it with her 510 TBH. I figure if the 810 & 510 have Bluetooth wireless sync then why not use it.

Obviously everyone to their own and I'm not arguing my way is the right way for everyone, just letting you guys know what I do in case it gives some helpful insight. Sorry if the way I do it winds you up somehow! I must say despite working in IT I tend to use a PC's less and less these days at home, tend to use smartphones and tablets much more.

A similar analogy is you can still plug your laptop into your router with an Ethernet cable if you like, but why would you when you can connect it wirelessly, same idea goes for many devices - cordless phone, remote controls, cordless hoover.... I know it's not really that much hassle to plug things in, it's just simpler not to and wireless devices can be more convenient in many instances.

I personally use tapiriik.com, costs £2 or so a year and it does everything automatically, worth it imo.

Copy my sports usually works fine for me. Not instant, but usually an hour or so. The blurb on the site says it will take a while to learn the times when you typically ride and will then check your feed more often at that time. Certain my commute seems to be uploaded more quickly than my weekend rides. Sometimes it misses them completely but I have a developing theory that this is when I have named the ride in Garmin connect with too many or unusual characters and believe me, some of my riding friends are unusual characters! )

I've started using Tapiriik with my edge 500 and it's great. Just bought an 810 so it will auto sync wig garmin connect and ten auto upload to Strava.

    Perfect.
  • Tapiriik works great. Highly recommended :)
  • tapiriik is great. I sync strava, training peaks and mapmyfitness through tapiriik.
  • No need for external apps any more. take a look at http://garmin.blogs.com/my_weblog/2014/ ... 9-Pef7hnT8
Haven't try it myself, but seems promising.
