I'm having a frame swap at the Plymouth Specialized Store at the minute and i asked if they could check my Original bike for a crack that i thought was. They rang me up today saying it is a crack and they are happy to replace the frame. He said on the phone if i could bring down the receipt for the bike which i have but it's not in my name. Would this be ok to have got the receipt when i bought the bike or will they be really strict and say this isn't you?

Say it was a gift.... From your friends for a big birthday? Little dodgy but still.

  • I think they would refuse it as I am sure the lifetime warranty is for the original owner of the bike only.

Doesn't answer your query but the certini guys in Plymouth and saltash are absolute stars and everything you would expect from a LBS. Didn't know I had a lifetime warranty on my roubaix frame!

I'm confused about the Certini shop and Specialized shop. Are they not different stores.? I took my bike for a bike swap in Specialized Concept store and got a Certini receipt.

I am sure you are right and you need proof of purchase to be sure of an easy warranty claim.

You're buggered if somebody from the store reads this.

Yep - definitely don't post your question on a cycling forum. Oh, wait....

That's a bit steep. Actually, they'll probably just refuse his claim.

All concept stores are franchises, obviously Certini holds the franchise for your local one.

Have you never seen Pulp Fiction...?

Shop staff can have very bizarre practices.

Its normally restricted to original owner, have known some folk not get warrenty honoured because the recipet was not in there name. When I claimed for my frame the dealer wanted original reciept validated by ID when I took the bike in before they did anything, I think they get paid by spesh for dealing with the swap if its a valid claim so wont normally waste their time if there is a chance of it not getting OK'd by spesh.

You often find that the Specialized concept stores have sister stores. One of the london stores have Sigma Sports, I think another is Chain Reaction. The Chelmsford store is owned by people who own/run two shops in Colchester. The Birmingham store is owned by the owner of Fort Dunlop Cycling/Shimano Service centre.

Maybe your store has a similar relationship with Certini.
