Evening,

I'm after some buying advice.

Are there any classic road bikes on the market today? I'm looking for something fairly cheap to get me to and from work in an urban environment.

There are a few examples of what I'm thinking about in these photos - I appreciate that most of these are high spec/bespoke:

    Hey the_wildman,

First, I want to say thx for using my blog post as a reference.
My first question is, how much is too much? I myself have two bikes, one is a damned old second hand for long rides. The other one is a Achielle Sam, http://www.achielle.be/EN/samsaar.php, it's a vintage styled bike that I use for riding around town. I consider it to be a fairly cheap bike, €700/$950, the naked version is some €100/$135 cheaper.
I'm considering to get a new bike though and that is their new Omer, http://www.achielle.be/NL/omer.php, just love that styling. But I must say, they aren't really comfortable for long rides. The seat is excellent, but it has a 2 gear internal hub.

I know that Specialized has a line called Globe, you might want to check that out. Pretty decent bikes for a decent price, http://www.specialized.nl/us/en/bikes/globe/roll. Or you just need to look for second hand bikes. most of my friends started out with those, and bought newer parts along the way until they had the parts they wanted and the money to buy a better frame.

Oh completely forgot about State Bicycles, but I think they only make custom made fixed gears. Their prices are very very very cheap for some sweet looking rides, around the €330/$450.

Suggest you pop over to the road bikes for sale section on Retrobike. Loads of options.

LFGSS too - but won't be as cheap.

Old bikes are a bit hipster-cool these days, doesn't expect Italian loveliness for bargain money.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
