Hi all,
Well second year and upgraded my bike, got the wife in on the scene and done a few centuries and many 50 or 60 milers. Thanks to all the sound advice from you good folk on here i feel like i am really progressing. The wife and i are looking for a long weekend away but are unsure of the best place to go. any advice? We are looking for long scenic rides as well as good hilly routes. Ideally would like a mix of medium to hard in terms of difficulty. We have done most of the hills around where we are but its limited choice in our area. (cleethorpes.)
Our initial thoughts are the peak district or North yorkshire moors. Any advice?
thanks again folks.

Both of course. And add another weekend in the Yorkshire Dales as well
I'd actually recommend the Dales first, then North York moors, then the Peak District. All are nice but that's my personal preference. I think its a scale of the first being more pretty and pastoral, with the Peaks being more dramatic.0 -
Moors over the Peak, for me (not just because they are nearer me). A lot less traffic. Roads tend to go up or down. There's little 'flat' unless you happen to be on a ridge, when it is still up or down but a lot shallower.0

I live on the edge of the Peaks, about 1 mile away. Don't come at the weekend, it's too busy. Everyone from Sheffield, Derby, Stoke and Manchester seems to arrive at the same time, all they all drive their cars like they don't want to be there! It's worse around Chatsworth/Bakewell and up in the Castleton/Hathersage area, but it gets quite bad everywhere else too. Then we have the motorbikes - mostly OK, but some of the guys seem intent on treating the roads like the TT course. I think three of the top ten worst roads in the UK for accidents are in the Peak district......
However, during the week, it's a pretty good place to be; not many tourists, great variety of roads, generally friendly locals. If you must come at the weekend, head towards the Staffordshire part of the Peak, not nearly as busy.

Peaks are busy. Lake district isn't too bad nor is the dales towards the west and north ends.
Mind you a hidden gem between all them is the Ribble Valley and Forest of Bowland area. Excellent mixed riding nice villages and not as busy.0 -

Totally agree, I'm fortunate, live slam bang between the dales and Forest of Bowland0
