Anyone know what happened?
I think the crash happened during the polkadot challenge, the road was closed and two marshalls with red flags told us there had been an accident. I could see the air ambulance was there so it must have been a bad crash.

It's a notoriously dangerous road, especially so if it's wetleft the forum March 20230

Yeah, I remember you did... that 90 degree left turn at the bottom of a 20% descent is deadly.... really a piece of crap engineeringleft the forum March 20230 -

It's a bad camber and it comes straight after a 20% descent... it's very difficult to control the speed, especially if it's wet... I remember having a moment when the tyre started to slip.
Geography is geography, but I'm afraid when it comes to road engineering in this country the knowhow has stopped well before the Victoriansleft the forum March 20230 -
if it's known to be a dodgy corner why did they route the ride through it?
Yes, fine if you're riding on your own but in a sportive/whatever where riders don't know the roads it looks a bit like p*ss poor planning. Yes, I know you should ride within yourself and it's not a race etc..
Apologies if I have the wrong end of the stick and I hope the rider down makes a speedy recovery.0 -
10 years ago the PDC used to follow the classic Milk Race roads, so it went up Snake Pass and then Winnats, but a few years ago they changed the course and used a lot more of these dodgy lanes, probably to take the riders away from the weekend Peak District traffic. However, in my view it has lost the appeal (a lot of minor and unknown climbs instead of few of the famous ones) and of course it has become more dangerous if you want to push yourself (or if you don't know how dangerous these lanes are).left the forum March 20230

Might be missing your point here, but I believe that most of these sort of single tracked lanes in the country take the routes that they do because of ancient history - suspect most were footpaths from hundreds (and possibly thousands) of years ago, which have merely been upgraded over the years.0 -
I think it was or had been raining at the time.
it also made me wonder why anyone would hold a race on such a dangerous road.
getting riders away from traffic is one thing, but that road is more dangerous than the cat and fiddle when it's full of cars and bikers. average speed cameras have made the cat and fiddle a little safer, but cars and bikes are still dangerous when they aren't traveling at high speed.0 -
From reading thru the posts on this thread, I think the answer is No, noone knows what happened regarding the accident the OP mentioned!!
Anyone tried the local news/radio stations etc?Scott CR1 Pro (Build in progress!!)

It happened quite a way before the corner hence I had started braking!Insta: ATEnduranceCoaching

I found something on twitter.
it simply says, thanks to the air ambulance who helped the cyclist on the polkadot challenge.
no mention of what happened.0
