Hello all, my name is Craig. I currently reside in St. Helens. I try to do 20+ mile rides when I can and average 11-16 mph but looking to get quicker. The furthest I have done was to Southport and back which was an experience to say the least. I am looking forward to the benefits if cycling on a regular basis.

Hi Craig. Welcome to the world of cycling - it's a total blast :) most folk here are friendly and helpful so ignore the knobs and get stuck in. Hope you have deep pockets, things will start getting expensive now you're here!!

Welcome. Don't post about waving to other cyclists (or not) or wearing team kit and you'll be just fine.

Hi mate. First things you need to do are start a thread on what bike to buy for £1000 and what wheels for £400 ;)

Living in the north west you have fantastic riding on your doorstep mate, enjoy!

And don't, whatever you do, start asking about weight training to get strong legs. Or try and see what'll happen :-)

And make sure you wear a helmet when riding. It's stupid and dangerous not to do so.

    Welcome and enjoy.

Welcome! Just keep at it, that is much more important than breaking records.

Hi Fabian. Do you have any advice for a mere mortal wishing to increase speed, what are your views on mechanically assisted bikes? Do you think I could get away with using one and passing it off as my own efforts

Keep at it- when you feel ready, get in touch with http://sthelenscrc.co.uk. They're a friendly lot who I think have a steady ride group Sundays.
