Accident, damages, insurers (MIB) etc

Last summer I was knocked off by a car/uninsured driver... pretty serious, I won't go into the details as I don't like to think/talk about it and it's really not the point of this post, to tell a tale of woe.

What I want to ask is if any of you have had dealings with the MIB (Motor Insurers' Bureau)? I am coming to the end of the claims process now. This morning I get a letter from my solicitor with a counter offer somewhat far below the sum that we put to them... don't want to give figures. This will obviously be standard procedure for them as they will look to give out as little as possible.

But I am curious as to how any of you played it from this point, is there negotiation still to be done? I think I can squeeze some more out of them as they have said they will pay out for any parts that were necessary add ons to my frame (wheels, pedals etc) but nothing that would have already been included on it by the manufacturer.

Or should I just accept the offer (still a sizeable amount I should add) and move on? (this has been going on nearly a year now!)

    depends...

what is "somewhat far below "?

will it cover your actual costs including any legal fees etc?

    what does your solicitor advise?

if there's not much in it, i'd probably say settle, but if you'll be significantly out of pocket then probably worth pushing it

Couple of thousand quid under. Haven't spoken to solicitor yet as the letter only came this morning. The figure they're offering will be enough to replace everything damaged. How do you mean pushing it... just refuse the offer and go back to the number we originally put to them? Never done this before.

I know some one that has had a similar out come they declined the payment offer and that was 2 years ago now I think deep down he wished he accepted the first offer

if they're offering enough to cover your documented losses plus any reasonable cost, then it could be tough to get more

by pushing it, yes i mean continue to try for more, but if the offer is 'reasonable' (in law, not in your opinion) it may not be productive, as above time to discuss with the solicitor
