I got a foam roller which is knobbly (gives a deeper massage, but can hurt a bit!) and I have to say it does work.

I get ITB issues every so often after a long ride, i.e. very stiff when bending it and aches big time using stairs. If I use the roller on the sides of my knees above and below it relieves it quite quickly. Loosens my knee up and the stiffness and ache goes subsides big time. Very impressed.

With my thighs and calves I can really feel the difference.

so for me they work a treat. :D

Yep, looking at my TP Grid, that's basically what it is: a plastic hollow pipe wrapped in foam.
In that case it would be easy to make a few cheap ones for a group by buying a length of pipe, wrapping a cheap yoga mat or similar around it and then cuttin git into appropriate lengths.

Yes, in so long as the pipe was strong enough to support your weight.

I made a foam roller from some bits I had at home. PVC drain pipe, double sided tape, and some high density foam. The PVC pipe is pretty much indestructable and works great.
