I'm heading over to Amsterdam with my girlfriend in a few weeks and was wondering if there's any good cycling shops?

Road racing based rather than the commuters that you see over there. Any with Rapha etc.

I go to Amsterdam a lot for work, and got to say I've never noticed a bike shop in the city centre that is like an Evans etc over here. Most bike places are just the commuter rental bikes rather than road racing. In fact I can't really remember seeing a modern road bike on the streets around the capital - and I've been going to Amsterdam for the last 4 years every month.

Out in the suburbs you may find something - somewhere out towards Amstelveen.

By the Amsterdam Arena stadium / train / metro stop there is a bike shop outside called "Marc Bikes Shop" which looks a reasonable size but I've never been in there to look - it could just be a commuter shop. (If you come off a train / metro and go down the escalators turn right towards the exit and then that shop is on your right hand side outside the building).

If I remember next week & I have time I will have a look at that shop to see what they have.

Bike shops are everywhere, but more of the sturdy city bike type; even race oriented shops tend to be more functional, less bling.
Presto in Haarlemmerstraat is the only central race focused shop. Further out there's Jan van Wijk on Willemsparkweg not far from Vondelpark, Cor Mantel on Hoofddorpweg or Tromm on Euopaplein.

Smething completely different is De Fietsfabriek, certainly worth a visit http://www.defietsfabriek.nl/nl/nl/225/ ... etsfabriek nt much Rapha though

Does your girlfriend know you are planning to pop into a bike shop or are you going to pretend you just stumbled upon it 8)

Ladies sitting in windows inviting you into their 'bike shop ' are all over
