Bont Riot re-shaping???

Ok so wide unusual shaped feet , struggling to find the perfect pair of shoes, so I've decided I just plain need some and trying everything now...

The Bont Riot feel ok in a 44 but I can feel the tub on both sides of my feet...
It's impossible to tell if it would be a problem, but obviously don't want to drop a ton on something I can't end up wearing...

Has anyone had any success in moulding the width outward slightly? I'm not sure just a couple of pairs of socks will hv
have the desired effect? or can the edges be moulded out slightly in that way?? would 3 pairs + for instance have that effect? or does the upper effectively prevent it from spreading that way?

Yes it seems a lot of bother when there are soo many shoes out there, but I do have weird feet

Tried a pair of Shimano wide fit 088 I think in white, not a fan but they fitted like slippers.....however they induced cramp across the width :( (something I do suffer with if shoes are too tight, but these felt perfect...

Some Bontrager RL again felt nice but too long,
about to try some mavic and specialised, but just thought I'd ask if anyone had had success moulding the riot shoe?

Cheers, N

Bont say to use a blunt object such as the handle of a screwdriver to push the shoe out to give more room. I think Bont also do wide versions of their shoes too. Or maybe go up half a size. I had to go up a size when I got my Vaypors.

Think Bonts come up a little small so might need to go up a size

I have very wide feet too and run Vaypors in wide.

I've used a blunt prodder to reshape the edges, but also raised the temp ever so slightly to get some more flexibility in the resin to then man handle the relevant edge outwards. Be careful with this approach, you need to keep a watch and check the shoes very regularly. I warmed up to the recommended temp for 20 mins and then went a little further. This gave more pliability. My biggest problem is that my feet seem to have grown (maybe tendons softening) and my toes are now starting to hit the toe box ends ever so slightly when they didn't before.

I have Bont Riot as well. I'm usually a 43 but used their size guide and went for a 44.5.

They feel about right, length wise. The toe-end feels quite roomy but the arch/heel end is very snug. I thought this might be an issue but I don't notice it on rides at all. I haven't tried the heat moulding yet, but might do.

Sorry, probably not very helpful at all!

As other have said Bont do say use something blunt like a screwdriver handle to puch out any tight bits but depending on how far down the bathtub sole you are talking it may not give much. Use their sizing guide to check but it sounds like you need to order a pair in a style they do in wide fit (don't seem to do Riot in anything but Standard) -

That site is excellent delivery is around a couple of weeks and AFAIK UK Dealers struggle to get wide fit models so better to order direct

I went through EXACTLY what the OP did (on the same sized shoe too!)

Got Riot in size 44. I could feel the edges of the tub and it actually hurt when putting the power down. I failed to re-mould them to fit nicely, even at slightly higher temps (using a specific oven thermometer on the baking tray)
In the end they went back as the toe peeled away after use and the thread also went.

I snagged some Vaypors on ebay in size 44.5 and the difference is night and day. The actual tub is different as it seems to come up and around the whole of the foot so there are no sharp edges.

Just be aware that when pushes the edges out, it will likely pull-in another area of the shoe.

Thanks for all the feedback.. I'd read the blunt object stuff on he bont site, but was weary as to whether it would be possible to manipulate it where I needed it to be honest?
I have wanted Bont Vaypors for over a year and after waiting on Bont wides last year for about 4 months I finally gave up and had took my money back as they couldn't tell me when Bont would actually send them..
So I've just tried some Standard Vaypors in a 43 and 44.5(44 was oos) and the 44.5 were a snug fit but the ratchet was woeful on one shoe and the tub where the ratchet was attached was going to need moulding and I wasn't happy with that particular pair and the way the ratchet was attached etc... it just didn't seem right. the tounge only just fitted across as well (I think I have high feet as well as wide)

Bizarrely the Assos G1 (Lake) I tried the 43 was the right size but were again snug, and had a very prominant arch (when standing) that seemed ok when 'on-me-toes' but once the arch has felt prominent it starts a nagging doubt, and the G1's are extortionate.

So at the moment I'm either taking a punt on the Riot and being able to pein over the edge slightly, or I've now tried the specialised Works road shoe and bizarrely again a 43.5 fitted comfortably, but they are soo thin and slipperlike that I am fearful despite their accommodating soft upper, that my wide feet will be over stressing them, I'm not averse to spending that kind of money, but only if I think I'll get serious wear out of them,
I like the Boa fixings best so am keen to try the Vaypor plus now, but nowhere local has them, and I can't 'keep on' ordering shoes from wiggle and returning them

Having been impressed with the ASSOS G1 (Lake) keen to also try the other high end Lake shoes with Boa fittings, but again nobody local stocks them and with only wiggle doing free returns it gets expensive trying to source the 'ideal' shoe hence I'm tempted to try the Bont Riot just to get out on the bike in clipless....

If spending 'top dollar' I'm less inclined to accept the little niggles that may well work out in the wash so to speak, but I desperately need to get out on the bike and had some hot spots/cramping when just doing 13 miles last time out in trainers on platforms.

can't remember exactly how the sidi wires felt now as it was last year I tried them, it's frustrating not having access to the high end shoes locally ...

    Thanks again for the feedback.

UK dealers can't get the wide fit models for love nor money - as I said order direct from the site I posted and you will get them within three weeks, I wouldn't use anywhere else if I needed another pair but my A2s are going strong.

having recently tried to find shoes for a wide foot shape i tried various bonts but eventually decided to go for the specialised 74 shoes. i find them very comfortable indeed. i found the s-works shoes a little too snug
