Out front Garmin mount + Event Number

You know in Sportives you tend to get given a laminated number to attach to your handlebars with cable ties? Which most would put centrally, in front of the stem.

But what do you do if you have an out front garmin mount? I've been putting the number to one side, but this means it gets in the way of my grip when I sit up on climbs. Which is a tad annoying.

I really like the out front position of the garmin, so don't want to go back to the standard mount.... Nor am I capable of not sitting back on the tougher climbs :-)

OK, so this is a very specific problem, but I can't be the only person to face it. I bet someone has a better solution than me, of maybe I'm just missing the obvious.

Sportive numbers are only really used by the event photographers which is why they need to be prominent on the front of the bike usually. If you're not bothered about getting any of the official photographs then it could go anywhere really I would say.

If it is a timed event like one of the Wiggle rides then they usually log all the numbers at the startline briefing in mobile phones which I think is a safety feature, counting everyone in and out, so it does need to be visible in this instance I think.

headtube for me too, more aero too ;)
  • Put your Garmin in your pocket?

You can still assess the data when you're home :D
  • Cut a hole in the number to fit the mount through

This, just attach it under your mount (ala James Bond style, well nearly)...

As per previous comment it’s just for event photos, so if you’re not interested in overpriced digital files don’t stick it on the bike.

Yes the photos are quite expensive  Some event numbers having the timing chip on the back ala Ride London-Surrey 100

LOL - sorry - I wasn't directing that at you  I bought my London 100 photos too :-)

But apart from the number on your back and the one with the chip in (London 100 was at the front, Etape Loch Ness was in a seatpost flag) the rest are for photos.

Thanks all for the different suggestions.

I have a sportive this weekend, so now have several things to try when I'm given my number and cable ties on Saturday morning :-)

Just in case anyone is interested, couldn't get it to work on my bikes bulky "aero" head tube, nor under the garmin mount on the handlebar (I have a k-edge mount, which holds the garmin quite low). Didn't try on my helmet.

I went for the brake cable suggestion. Didn't seem to catch the wind, and I still got "registered" by the cameras. So all good.

Thanks again for the suggestions :-)
