A friend wants some handbuilts to replace the standard radially laced wheels he has. He needs two sets and the budget is around £250 for each. Neither person is heavily built and the wheels requirements are to be strong but light ie. not overbuilt, these machines are really dry and good weather only.

Also, which builders would one recommend. I was thinking wheelcraft.

Any advice appreciated

Try looking for a wheels builder who uses the H plus Son Archetype. A build with silver spokes and Novatec a171/F172 hubs will be robust relibale and not heavy. The rims in black come in 24H and 28H and so the the hubs. That will cost around £250-£260.

Mavic Open Pro build with silver sapim spokes and novatec hubs will cost a bit less but weigh roughly the same.
