New Crown Race

I've odered a new headset and taken off the crown race on my carcon forks (Raleigh Airlite winter bike) - in taking the race off some paint flaked off the top of the forks where the race sits. So I have a partially painted/exposed ali top. Should I spray the exposed area with 'car paint' before I re-assemble or will it rust if I leave it as it is?

    Yes - the top tube that goes through the headset and top of the fork crown are aluminium and the actual forks are carbon. It looks like there is a ali to carbon join/weld about an inch and a half from where the forks join. I'm not sure whether all 'carbon forks' are made this way but this is what I have on this budget machine.
