The slight shift on the levers to operate the trim is not working on my new shimano 105 group set. Probably a set up issue. Anyone know the most likely problem? Cable tension? front derrailure position? Any ideas would be appreciated.

  • Try reducing the tension, check the cable action isn't forcing the mech hard against the H stop.

Assuming that the H & L limit screws are ok and that it lines up properly to change gear, drop onto the small ring, adjust the thumb adjuster to somewhere around the centre of its adjustment then slacken off the cable at the mech, pull it hand tight and reclamp it. Then fiddle with the thumb adjuster till it's right - you can do this on the move.

If you have to wind the H or L screws in or out a bit to achieve a clean change, do that, a bit a time. There's no law that says it all came out of the shop perfectly set up, and setting up gears is a trivial thing that everybody should be able to do.
