hi
I've been digging round online for a used bike - i would like to spend roughly £300ish and have found 3 I like the look of.
Generally looking for opinion on which is the best as I'm not massively clued up on it
Orange G3:
http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/orang ... to-content
GT Aggressor:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... TQ:GB:1123
or
Specialised rockhopper:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221400972806? ... 1423.l2649
Any guidance would be much appreciated or any other suggestions!
Thanks

The sizes range from 18" to 21". I would work on what size you want first (bearing in mind manufacturers measure sizes differently).
Apart from the Orange (which being on Gumtree is stolen) none mention spec at all, and my eyes are too old and tired to study small pictures.I don't do smileys.

Because all bikes on Gumtree are stolen. Its a well known _fact_A Flock of Birds
+ some other bikes.0 -
I would have added a smiley, but I don't do smilies.
Not even sure how to spell them.I don't do smileys.

Ha I'll try an avoid gumtree then.
What would you recommend to buy for around £300?
Are specialised rockhoppers a safe bet?
Cheers0 -
Not really, you'll be paying £200 for the bike and £100 for the name...a similar bike from a 'lesser' company would cost you about £200, look for a Carrera Fury or Voodoo Hoodoo....Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Thanks
What about a Voodoo Bokor?
Cheers0 -
Voodoo Bokor is good, few of them on the forum.Framebuilder

Thanks mate
Do you think they are a better bike than this for example?

Erm I'd have the Voodoo to be honest, better spec (I'm assuming it's 2011) and as it's been said, your also paying to have Specialized written on it, something your not doing for coodooFramebuilder

As it doesn't mention spec, hard to say. It is also a Rockhopper, not a P2, which is a jump bike.I don't do smileys.

The Voodoo I've been looking at is the blue framed one with the white components. The guy selling works at Halfords and preferred the blue frame so swapped it over.
He said its been used a couple of times max so is in excellent condition. I'm going to see it at the weekend hopefully.
What sorta price would you be offering?
Thanks for all the help guys. I've asked for a full spec list on the specialized.0 -
Give us a link to it and we will let you know mate0

Thanks!
It's this frame:

With this kit:

Do you think £300 would be a decent price?
Cheers0 -
Depends on the condition. Offer him £250.
But both your links have different forks. The Epicon is good, but if it has RS Recon with Motion Control, in good condition, bite his hand off. Great fork.I don't do smileys.

It's been used twice on tarmac so hardly any use at all.
It has the epicon forks defo I've just checked.0 -
Newer then. Pity but still a very good bike. I'd part with £300 for a good one. But offer less.I don't do smileys.

At a push it's worth £300, but offer £250!
The P2 is a jump bike, the P2 AM (as in link in the first post) is not.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
Says Rockhopper on the label. Anyway the name is less relevant than the actual bike.I don't do smileys.

What do you think the specialized would be worth?0 -
Just been for a look at the voodoo and it looks mint condition apart from a couple of scuffs on the rear mech. Apart from that it looks unused.
He said min he would take is £350 so I said I would have a think. Do you think offering £300 would be worth a punt?0 -
How does it feel to ride?I don't do smileys.

Really smooth! Seems almost new. The guy said he's ridden it twice on tarmac and that's exactly how it looked and felt.0
-
Lowest he'll go is 3400
-
What does everyone think of this?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Giant-Revel-4 ... 51b900c364
Seems good value0 -
Horrible, horrible, horrible.
Bargain bin bits (mechs etc) and truly terrible, useless fork. Even steel bars and 7 (21) speed.
Take the Voodoo. Give him a few days to sweat and offer £300 again. It's probably £300 better than the Giant anyway.
Bear in mind the longer you wait, the less you ride, so maybe just buy it and have £40 worth of extra fun.I don't do smileys.

Very true. He's actually come back to me saying I can have it.
In the mean time though I've found a Trek X-Caliber 7 which is about 4 months old.
It has Sr suntour xcr forks w/coil spring, pre load, hydraulic lockout, custom g2 geometry w/51 mm offset, 100 mm travel.
The wheels are bontrager xr1 29 X2. 0"
Shimano hydraulic disc brakes and 9 speed shifters
Does that sound a better bike for the same dosh?0 -
I should have included it's been used for about 10 minute ride only used like 4 days a week to and from work (road and pavements) for about 5 months where as the bokor hasn't been used at all.0
-
Voodoo Bokor will still be miles better, that fork above is horrible0
