Hello

I will shortly be moving to Brighton and I'm hoping that someone with local knowledge or race experience in the South-East could recommend a club for me.

I'm currently a 3rd cat, hoping to get my 2nd this year and would ideally like to join a club that has a high-calibre of rider that I can train and race with. I'm used to weekend club rides of about 19-20mph average and part of a chaingang down in Cornwall, so would be great to replicate that in my new home.

I know the best way to get into a club is to go along for a few rides first, but if this could be narrowed down to some race-oriented clubs/teams, it would be most appreciated!

Not in a club myself but "On the limit Velo club" look very active and seem to do lots of different things . There is also Brighten Excelsior (and a Worthing version) and Sussex Nomads.

    +1 to that.

They always have a lot of guys racing at Surrey League events and have been running their own series at their local circuit. Some very strong riders in their ranks - Mick Coyle is a beast!

Fantastic, thanks for that. Will try out with Brighton Mitre once I'm settled in. Looking forward to the move and seeing the amount of riding and racing in the South-East makes it even better! :D

Not only is he a beast, he's also a really nice guy!

OP, the mitre meet every Saturday and then usually go out in 2 groups, a faster one which will probably suit you and then a slower one for those just looking for a social ride. During the summer, there's a crit series around Hove Park and the usual evening 10 and hill climbs. I think that a small group go out on Wednesday evenings too but don't quote me on that.

Yes, Wednesday evenings tends to be track training (on road bikes) at Preston Park velodrome or local circuits.

There is also a track league on Wednesday nights over the spring and summer at the above mentioned velodrome. Also there are crit races around the velodrome most weekends run by a couple of Mitre members.

Will be happy to show you around the local area too when you get here, drop me a message if you want to go for a ride before you start in the office.

    Welcome to Brighton!

Mitre are a very good racing club, and as said above are very active organising races and training around Brighton. All the Mitre riders I've met are a very friendly bunch, and they've just released a really nice new kit design.

If you fancy coming out for club runs on Sundays though, pop along to Ditchling just outside Brighton for a ride with my club, the Sussex Nomads - you'd be more than welcome. We meet at 9am at the village hall. Look forward to seeing you out and about round Sussex in one jersey or another.

I had one of them red bikes but I don't any more. Sad face.

  • I had no idea so many posters were from Brighton. We should all get together for a ride!
