Hi All,

I have a Boardman Road Race that has a tapered English thread BB. I'm looking at getting a new groupset and wondered if any BB will fit so long as it's also English thread? Eg getting a BB30 with new crank...

Thanks!

BB30 is press fit (no thread).

Your BB shell is not a tapered thread, by the way.

BB30 will not fit in an standard threaded BB.

The taper part you mention will be the crank bb interface.

Parktools is a good place to have a read about the standards.

Sorry, thought tapered was the square type of BB.

So if I buy a 105 groupset with an English thread BB, will this work?

Not with a square taper bb it won't! You would need to fit a hollowtech 2 bb

Yes that will fit to your bike OK. You'll obviously need to remove the old BB - you can get your bike shop to do it or buy/borrow the necessary tools. Removing the old BB can be easy or difficult depending on whether the person who fitted it remembered to smear some anti-seize on the threads beforehand.
