First bike ride with my wife - video evidence!

A successful first ride with Mrs T today, on her new road bike. She really enjoyed it, though I wouldn't have picked the same route for a first ride (she wanted to go around Llyn Brenig, a nearby reservoir up on the moors)
I did try to warn her. Awful road surface in places!
A quick little video to remember the occasion:

I hope it's the first of very many. She's already planning where to go next.

You won't be saying that when she starts dropping you on the hills !0

Well done.
I built up my wife's new bike last week and yesterday she went for a brief local ride to get used to it.
I've just shown her the video. Very jealous of the stunning views you both got to take in.

If I went out cycling with my missus she would be complaining of a sore backside in less than a mile and her bike would be on ebay the next day. This serious internet site..............I serious cat0

Nice video, I bought my fiance a bike recently and we have done a few short blasts and a few longer rides over the last two weeks, she's loved it and as someone who's always ridden alone iv welcomed the company.
She pretty fit anyway so has taken to it well, her speed is good as well although she's really struggling on the hills but don't we all!!One plays football, tennis or golf, one does not play at cycling0 -
solo rider, the kids not competent on the road and I nearly wet myself watching the wife try and ride a bike that had the kiddies trailer on, think she would have a coronary if she tried a real ride.---

Well done Wife!
I discovered Llyn Brenig last month by accident... My brother has just moved to Prestatyn and I went down to visit for the first time (obviously stuck the bike in the car). Went out for a wee 'morning spin' and hadn't really thought about the hills, so it was completely by accident that I picked a road which led up 'The Road To Hell' and ended at beautiful Llyn Brenig. You have an amazing area for riding!0 -
On getting wives on bikes:
My brother in law and I decided to do a 500 miles through Scotland challenge (5 days, 100 miles per day) and the wife said she wanted to be involved. She did 7 months of training, which started with tears, sore backside and several new saddle purchases. The first ride she did with us we took her up a 2km 8% hill and she almost passed out, reduced to tears and so on.
6 months later, she led the group into John o'Groats having done the entire 500 miles at an av. speed of 14mph.
I am, to this day, bloody impressed by her sheer bloody-mindedness and determination not to let me do something without her0 -
Nice work, I am glad your wife appears to be enjoying it.
Having my wife develop an interest in cycling has opened up many more opportunities to get the bike out as any family trip is routinely met with the idea I get out in the morning just because she understands that riding new challenges is fun rather than believing "that bloody bike" is an inconvenience. Likewise a sportive a few hours away is the chance for an over night and a wee family trip.
Had to take my turn last year spending the day with my daughter waiting on mum to finish a sportive as we couldn't get anyone to do the child minding. Rather than mope around with a petted lip me and el kid had a great laugh "secretly" eating cakes an driving some of the route to see how mum was doing. We caught her 10 miles from the end just about to fix a puncture. That task then fell to me......0 -
Good stuff! I started cycling two years ago and it is the best thing I have ever done physically and mentally...love it. Did my first sportive at the weekend and have followed my husband all over the UK doing 100 milers and multi day trips. Last year we went to France and I did some of the mountain climbs...fantastic! Last year I also tried track riding at the Manchester velodrome and now hooked on that too...flippin loving it!0

Wow, thanks for all your replies. Some really inspirational stories there.
I hope she perseveres to the stage where it becomes a habit, a proper lifestyle change.
I also posted the link on my ScarletFire facebook page and a lady I know from a local club commented very positively and suggested my wife could join their ladies rides, when she feels comfortable. It's this kind of support that I find so heartwarming about cycling folks.
Thanks.Alan

what camera was it?0
-
It was taken with a GoPro Hero 2, albeit one with a slightly scuffed lens through very neglectful handling (left it lying around not in its case and somehow it got propelled across the kitchen, lens in contact with a laminate floor.
Annoying.
Great little camera though!Alan
