A friend of mine was poking around at an auction today and found a G.E Clifford Reynolds 531 frame set as one of the lots coming up for sale shortly . Does anyone know anything about this particular bike builder as he was thinking of buying it to build it up . It looks in reasonable condition from the picture he sent me over .
Also what would a frameset like this be worth ?
Ill put a pic up once I figure out how to do it

It won't have any particular value, tbh - whatever it sells for is probably what it is worth...

Doesn't feature on Classic Lightweight listings but a Clifford Cycles still exists in Hull and probably a bike shop rebranding of a stock frame or local builder. Value will depend on quality and condition - £100 would be a fair price for something useable but scruffy paint, £200+ if nice lugs and mint paint.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

When steel bikes were the standard (only) choice for road racing bikes, every backstreet bike shop would buy the framesets from Reynolds and braze them together in their back room workshops. Tubes, lugs and sizes were therefore identical between "brands" and you didn't need to be a master craftsman to assemble one.

531 frames were a mid priced staple for club riders. Today, they are cheap to pick up, offer a gorgeous ride, and are fun to restore and build a bike onto. See my blog for my 531 build story.

I paid £30 for my scruffy 531 frame then restored it. It has been on Sunday ride and commuting duty ever since.

Cheers guys , I passed the info over to him . He's going to bid on it regardless as he's got it in his head he wants it now .
I can't shrink the pics to be able to post any up but it looks to be in very good condition with nothing bent out of shape and paint work all complete with not many marks so it could be a good purchase for the right price
