Hi, I'm lucky to be visiting Las Vegas at Easter. Does anybody have any information or experience of bike rental, routes or links. It would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Have you been before?
I love cycling but Vegas would be the last place I would waste time on a bike0 -
I don't think you could carry enough water for more than half an hour. I did notice some police on bikes over there though, I love cycling, but not Las Vegas.0

Hi, have been to vagas a lot over the last few years but very rarely see people actually cycling in along The Strip unless its very early in the morning before the traffic and heat builds up.
I have cycled in Boulder City and rented bikes from www.allmountaincyclery.com we cycled along quieter roads and paths and over the old train route through some tunnels around Lake Mead upto the Hoover Dam. It was very hot and once we had had enough the shop came and picked us and the bikes up. We did a tour which meant they came and picked us up dfrom the hotel in Vegas and returned us, they provided loads of liquids and lunch.
We enjoyed the trip and I would recomend it. You could also have a look at www.vegas.com and get the names of some of the otehr national parks in the Vegas area as there are a few and i think there are similar companies near these as I have seen cyclists in the national parks which have slow speed limits which make the cycling safer.0 -

This. Spend your time watching midget cage fighting instead.English Cycles V3 | Cervelo P5 | Cervelo T4 | Trek Domane Koppenberg0 -
I know a guy who lives there a he rides out to the west of the city (along the 159 and then onto the 160). However they're not the best roads for cycling and it gets very hot, very quickly. In addition once outside the city there is not much infrastructure so if you run out of fluids you could be in trouble. I would find a local club and go along on one of their rides0

I would assume the area around Las Vegas very beautiful... maybe you need a MTB or Cross bike to get out of the roads, but it's surrounded by National Parks (Red Rock, Lake Mead, Sloan Canyon), how can that be not nice for a ride? Get one of those camel packs MTB people use and you'll be fine in the morningleft the forum March 20230

I am going to Vegas end of April and I am planning on booked a Red Rock Canyon road bike tour from here:

Gets good trip advisor reviews and I have been emailed the organisers back and forward for more details. Looks pretty good if not a bit expensive.0 -

Yes, but it's probably beautiful and a once in a lifetime thing... certainly better than wasting money at a slot machine watching dwarves-cage fightingleft the forum March 20230 -
It was 45 degrees when I was there
Not sure a road bike would be much use - the roads are very long, very straight/flat, and its the middle of a desert so, although nice to look at, there is not much in the way of anything else. I bet there would be some excellent guided mountain biking stuff round and about though.strava - http://app.strava.com/athletes/1217847

I agree that it will be a once in a lifetime thing - looking forward to it.
For info - this is part of the route that I will be taking - http://www.strava.com/segments/5333280. Rest of my route depends on my fitness/hangover!0 -

That wasn't April...
I have been in the Death Valley in April and yes, in the afternoon it gets to 30-35, but it's not the end of the world and the Death Valley is hotter than Vegas... and in the morning is just fine
I think the OP in April will be just fine... it's been a long and cold winter in the US, I suspect they won't have 40 degrees in Aprilleft the forum March 20230 -
The tour guide advised me the temp should be ok and I might even need arm warmers, however the temperature that vegas natives wear arm warmers and the natives of the west of scotland might be a bit different.0

Desertic areas have a big drop of temperature at night... you might have freezing in the early hours in the morning rising to 30 degrees in the afternoon... lack of moisture in the airleft the forum March 20230 -
Thanks for all the replies guys. This is definatley a once in a lifetime trip so I will be taking the opportunity to rent a bike and hit the desert routes. Found this site and very useful http://www.bikinglasvegas.com/
Will be hoping to cycle to Red canyon and Lake Mead.0 -
As far as temperatures go, the weather has been erratic around Las Vegas lately to say the least. Swinging from one extreme to the other. Pretty much the way of the entire planet anymore I suppose. Take enough gear for any type of weather.0
