In my lbs today. £1500 for a specialized roubaix equipped with sora.....do people go for this? I must be out of touch with pricing. Seems a bizarre combo.

Specialized seem to have got a bit carried away with their price hikes on some bikes. Which is a shame as a bit better spec or lower price would make their bikes a reasonable deal.

The new Roubaix frame is pretty good by all accounts, and the new Sora is apparently much better than previous incarnations as well. £1,500 does sound a lot, but then the advice has always been the get the best frame you can and upgrade bits when funds allow. I wouldn't go for it, but reckon a few people new to the sport might, and they'd probably really enjoy riding it as well. By contrast, someone was doing the 2013 Cube GTC Race the other day for around 980 (with a 105/Ultegra mix) and Westbrook cycles were doing the Scott Foil Frame with Ultegra Di2 groupset, aero seatpost and stem for 1200 (just add wheels, pedals and bars). So plenty of killer deals going, but if someone just walks in off the street and wants a relatively pain free transaction with a big name brand they will sell...
Titus Silk Road Ti rigid 29er - Scott Solace 10 disc - Kinesis Crosslight Pro6 disc - Scott CR1 SL - Pinnacle Arkose X 650b - Pinnacle Arkose singlespeed - Specialized Singlecross...& an Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray 4 string...

Your LBS has overpriced that if it's a standard bike, as the sora Roubaix is £1300 everywhere else for the 2014 model.

£1300 for the standard frame, £1500 with discs. Or £1000 for the same frame in Aluminium with discs (spend the change on hydraulics?) in the Secteur Sport Disc C2
I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.

Spend the extra £100 and get the black/red 105 laden model. Sooo much better for £100

  • I had a 2014 Roubaix Sora Disc as a test bike a few months back - I normally ride a Sectuer with mix of SRAM APEX and Force - I loved the Roubaix frame and disc brakes but Sora is agricultural to say the least and I hated it!

I think they missed a big trick there, 10 speed would make it a better deal for the price. 9 Speed Sora makes people feel very short changed.
