Forecast says chilly but dry and clear, there's no salt on the roads.
So what do you reckon?

Used mine 3 times this year already, if it is nice and dry I will use one of my good bikes.
The only problem is getting back on your winter bike after riding a good bike :-(
Fed up riding a heavy CX bike on the road, looking forward to dry weather :-)0 -

What is a Summer bike?Is it all yellow and smiley and flowery?
I was out on Thursday,in winter Sun/Gales on my BIKE.Maybe it's because I'm from an MTB background that a bike is just a bike to be used whatever the weather
We don't really have summers or winters so just get out and ride0 -
I've been commuting on mine all winter. Can't stand riding the commuter after riding the CR1. Silly perhaps, but it makes me love every ride I do.0
-
buy a second cr1 to kit out with winter riding kit... or get a parlee in the same geometry with clearance for 25s and mudguards...0
-
Ha Ha
I'm gonna chance it people.
Any ice should be gone by the time we get to higher roads and god I miss her.0 -
Still haven't cleaned mine after riding it last week in the hail..

So your CR1 is "a bike" and not "a summer bike".
Personally my main (summer) bike will remain hooked up to the Kickr until April. Its still winter so it seems pointless taking it outside for the odd ride before then. If I do go outside beforehand I will use my second (winter) bike.
I think the more expensive the main bike, or the larger the price difference between an owners two bikes the less likely they are to take them outside during the winter.0 -

I've actually just done exactly that0 -

It was intended as my fair weather bike, but during a period when my commuter was out of action, and I had to use the Scott, I discovered it was too hard to stop using it.0 -

I've luckily only ever had to endure hail on the bike once, and that was not pleasant in the slightest.
I've got the bike off the turbo and gave it a once over to make sure she is ready to ride tomorrow. I'm getting out at some point, let's hope once it has warmed up a bit.0 -

Ahhh, hail. That's what I got on Friday! In high winds. If felt like there was a thousand people firing nail guns at me. And the nails had been stored in a freezer! I was only out for less than 15 minutes!Faster than a tent.......0 -

That was me last Sunday, like icy needles in the face, although it was a good first test on my new Gabba LS (it passed with flying colours ). I was on the winter bike, although having read this thread I am tempted to get out on the CR1 today. Only problem is I suspect most of the routes around here are going have flood water and liquid mud in abundance so will probably stick with the Tifosi, maybe the singlespeed? :?
Would be great to get back out on the Scott though, it's been months....Titus Silk Road Ti rigid 29er - Scott Solace 10 disc - Kinesis Crosslight Pro6 disc - Scott CR1 SL - Pinnacle Arkose X 650b - Pinnacle Arkose singlespeed - Specialized Singlecross...& an Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray 4 string...0 -
I've used a Scott CR1 for most of the winter and I can assure you that water won't harm it and the mud washes off without effecting the integrity of the carbon, but the headset was stuffed within 2 months ........so maybe the water did harm it ....slightly.0
-
I did a 115 miles on the fixed yesterday; East Manchester over to Chester and back via Delamere and Oulton Park.
Tons of mud around, flooded roads, grit and gravel. A proper messy winter ride...
Keep the summer bikes tucked up for now ;-)0 -

I think thats the problem, you can clean it as much as you like when you get back but after about 5 minutes in everything gets dirty and so wear affects it more for the rest of the ride.
That said, i've been using the good bike as and when I can over the winter, life's too short not to! knowing my luck i'd save it all over winter then first ride out in spring i'd be taken out by a car and snap it in half!!www.conjunctivitis.com - a site for sore eyes0 -
Just got in from my ride, went out on the better bike. My winter bike is either a Domane 2.0 or my very cheap mtb bike, depends on the weather. My better bike is a 2014 Madone 4.7 with the odd upgrade (wheels, stem, seatpost).
Probably about £2000 difference between the two bikes. (Domane vs Madone)
For me its not about the price difference. For the first time in months I can honestly say I absolutely loved that ride. Only had time for 32 miles, finished it at 1030 and still smiling, I reckon I will be smiling all day. Yeah the bike will get a good clean, but that ride was awesome. I had a lot of real miserable rides with all the wind and rain we have had. Close to falling out of love tbh, but after getting on my best bike and having fun today, the love affair is back on.
Each to their own, but I am so glad I took the best bike out today.0 -
I think what's been said about cost is true. Although my bike would cost over £3K if you were to buy it in a shop, the frameset was one of the £500 Westbrook deal ones and I built the rest up myself. If I'd spent 2 grand on a frameset alone then it wouldn't be coming out for some time. The downside to that, of course, is that you don't get to ride the bike you love the most enough.
Thanks for the advice about the headset! I can kind of live with that: the cost if replacing a headset more frequently is easily outweighed by the pleasure in riding it every day.0 -

I think the guy was just trying to open up discussion. It's what people do on web forums. But then I suppose being deliberately rude to strangers is what other people do too so, as you were.0 -
Today I'm using both my winter and summer bike, only got one0

I took my wet bike despite it being dry and sunny as at this time of year thanks to farmers some of the roads I use are literally covered in sh1t.0

Gorgeous weather but icy roads (and very wet), I happened to ride a few miles with some random group of cyclists and a couple of them went down on an ice patch. Had to walk on a couple other occasions due to ice. Wouldn't take the summer bike out just yet.0
