was out this morning in a brutal wind and started to notice on my garmin which I thought wasn't correct info on the screen i.e speed didn't seem right and I know the wind was definitely affecting the altimeter as I was actually climbing into a headwind and the percentage reading was telling me I was going down hill.now I know the pressure for the weather will affect the altimeter but would it affect the speed/cadence sensor(cant really see how it could TBH)

which reading does the garmin use to calculate speed if I have a speed/cadence sensor on or does it use the GPS to calculate it?

sometimes it said I was doing 18mph but it certainly didn't feel like it,so is it me or the garmin? anybody else found this when out in this type of weather?

Speed/cadence sensor always takes precedence over GPS.

have you set the wheel size correctly? if you set it to auto it will work it out from the gps signal.

on a side note below is the elevation from last nights turbo session, was near an open window and the wind was incredible (was great for cooling me down though!). just shows how dodgy the elevation gain/loss is on these

Not stricktly true. in the setup menu if you set wheel size to auto it uses the gps to calibrate the wheel size so it is not therefore taking precedence. it only does if the signal is lost.
  • Ok I have it set to manual at 2096mm.

never had to doubt it before it just didnt feel right yesterday at all. Which is more accurate..gps or wheel sensor or is it of no consequence?

If you set the correct wheel size manually it should be a bit more accurate than the GPS as there is no GPS position drift to worry about.
