Putting good new wheels on an 8 speed bike.
Hi guys,
I need some advice from some of guy that are in the know.
I want to get some new wheels for my Carrera Tdf.
Looking at some Mavic Aksium 2014 and Campy Zondas 2014.
Neither of them are marked as being 8 speed compatible.
Can I put an 8 speed cassette on them? Or is there something that prevents this working?
Thanks for the help!

Depends what freehub they have.
You need a 8/9/10 speed freehub to fit your 8 speed cassette too. These are fairly normal but the latest stuff is now 11 speed so 2014 wheels may be 11 speed.
There is also the odd 10 speed only - (but unlikely you will come across a wheelset with these).
Also make sure it is the correct manufacturer - Shimano freehubs (that also fit SRAM) are different to Campag ones.Yellow is the new Black.0 -
re: zonda;s, Wiggle says yes http://www.wiggle.co.uk/campagnolo-zonda-clincher-wheelset/?lang=en&curr=GBP&dest=1&utm_source=pla&utm_medium=base&utm_campaign=uk&kpid=5360518141, but you'll need the correct spacers. The question is on page eight of the 'question and answer' tab.
I assume the Aksiums will be the same, as they obviously fit the same higher range Shimano as the Zonda, but don't hold me to it.
Zonda's are a mighty big upgrade for the basic TDF, but I shouldn't really throw bricks in glass houses, I just bought a pair for my Giant SCR3.0. Keep the original wheels so you can use em in winter, sell them on with the bike and keep the Zonda's for your next bike.
