Vredstein Tyres - Puncture advice

I had a nasty puncture on Saturday. Typically it was out in the fields, freezing wind and the valve on my spare tube wasnt long enough to pump up properly with my mini pump !!!
I run Vredstein Tricomp and the rear tyre is about 1000 miles old. The puncture was a piece of flint and seems to have cut the tread all the way through to the tube and is about 1cm in length. Its right by the valve as well.
My instinct tells me to chuck the tyre and bite the bullet and shell out for a new one. Its not the cost that gets me but the fact the rest of the tyre is perfectly fine.
Anybody had any experience with repairing this sort of thing ? If i did repair is it likely to last or fail again easily ? The slit isnt wide or large enough for the tube to squeeze through and its a very clean cut so some glue could bond it together easily ??

I'd ditch it - it would surely let grit in.
Get some GP4000S - I much prefer them.0 -
Funny you should say that - i was looking at them and they are a bit lighter and seem to have better puncture protection.
Was just about to push the buy button but thought i would see if my current ones could be saved !!0 -

No, it isn't. It's directly opposite. or quarter of the way round, or 3/8 of the way round or 2/3 of the way round.
You might get away with a bit of glue but it will still be weak to flint again, and if flint has already gone through one bit of your tyre it sounds like it could easily happen again, however you line up the valve!

I'd throw the tyre.
However in general I find tricomps pretty much bomb proof, fast and grippy. The only one I have destroyed, rather than wore out, in five years of using them was after hitting a piece of dry stone walling, but we don't get flints here.0 -
I'm trying these out this year, fed up with Contis not working as hoped. You can also get them on Ribble for £21 each, order 3+ and get another 10% off with XMAS10...0

I destroyed two Tri Comps in one pothole. In my defence the pothole was hidden under water - but I've never had tyres split like that before. I'm not going back.0
