looks quite nice out there so going to take the good bike out I think :-)

will take it easy on corners and decent and give it a clean after, no point having it sat there not doing anything for 5 months!

Quite right too. Bike's aren't made of cheese and you only get one go at life. Ride the bike you fancy and put a smile on your face.

I'm off to town to buy a bigger fan to go with my turbo :( . My cast should be off in 5 weeks and I will be smiling just to be able to get out (assuming there's no ice around).
  • I really enjoy at this time of year if it's dry and not too windy. I went out for a quick ride yesterday lunchtime and ended up staying out for 4 hours in the countryside around Harrogate and Leeds. Luckily I'd kept my lights on the bike! There was still some ice around in the hills but nothing dangerous. It was cold but I warmed up quickly and I just had a quick break to get some more food and water. I just put on extra layers of non cycling kit and wear my long sleeve hi-viz jacket over them. Unlike spring/autumn I don't get hot enough to need to take layers off but I'm not pushing it too hard. I'm not serious enough to buy a turbo trainer so I just go out when weather and work allow.

I was tempted to give the good bike an outing today, but glad I chose otherwise in the end - so much shit (sometimes literally) all over the roads today! So glad for the mudguards!
  • Is this a comment on bad weather or good?

Its f-in awful here. Drizzle, cold and dark all day :(

It was shite first thing this morning in Derbys too, overcast with wet and greasy roads. It's starting to become a chore just to go out and I was amazed to complete 42 pleasure free miles, I can't say that I've ever felt that way but I'll be out again tomorrow grinding away.

Glad I took the winter bike. 4 people had an off in our group and it would have been my luck to have been one of them

140 miles in the bank today. It was a lovely day, even with a bit of a drizzle. Winter miles for summer smiles. :)

  • I bought a 'winter bike' a month ago and not even used it yet! (2nd hand Giant Defy 1)

Every time I go out at the weekend its been dry enough for the best bike (and on occasions I go out mid-week too)

Dry enough again tomorrow for the best, so will be using that.

I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles
  • After coming down on a bend last week, I really wanted to get out today. A fairly gentle 32 miles in good weather. Quite nervous on the corners but I didn't think the roads were as greasy as last week. It's just good to get out.

 How did you even fit that into daylight hours?? I thought I did well to squeeze in 75, and that occupied most of the time from getting up until sundown.

Just bought some posh wheels and they had their first outing yesterday, sadly though a rider unknown to me took a tumble on a bend just in front of me coming down a hill. Greasy roads are a problem this time of year, I think its the sugar in the road salt or something. I saw him go down and managed to slow up, completely locked both wheels with ease. Fortunately I was upright.

I didn't really. I started at 7:30 and finished at 5:00. Had I been a bit more reasonable with my stops and not pootled about with a few folk for the first hour then I'd have arrived back before it got dark.
