thanks in advance for reading this, any responses much appreciate!

Want to do a full service on my forks can anyone tell me the part numbers for the service kits required and where's good to buy them from.

Also any hints and tips would be appreciated. Have checked out youtube etc and doesn't look too complicated.

any sram dealer or some suspension specialist like TF tuned.

and download the service info from Srams website. as videos tend to miss info.

There you go , just open relevant pdf . If forks are behaving ok you will just need new seals and foam rings . Or you can get a kit of parts including all o rings . Look at 2012 parts pdf and check part numbers. Petra cycles Oxshot Surrey can deliver very quickly .
Need a 10mm deep socket , 24mm socket , circlip pliers , suspension oil , syringe from local chemist is handy for getting correct oil volume in right place., rubber mallet, 5mm allen key., suspension compatible grease that won't affect seals

http://www.bikegoo.co.uk/product.php/10 ... sid__2012_ one of several places also via ebay or amazon , note be absolutely certain you have a 2012 fork .

Did my sid recently . Much easier if fork off bike . Be clean and methodical. The pdf is excellent . I hadn't touched a fork before but it was very easy .00.4315.032.080 is the part no for a 2012 sid reba rebuild kit of seals and o rings

  • Buy your different weight oils from a motorbike shop not a bike shop.

Be aware motorcycle fork oils might not have the same viscosity as a MTB fork oil. Oil weights vary depending which test is used, I have a bottle of 15wt Bel-Ray fork oil if I used it in my SID forks the forks wouldnt move if I dropped the bike out of a plane.

  • Thanks for the replies. One more question! How can I tell if its a 2012 fork? When Ive looked at the service kits it appears that forks pre 2012 have a different service kit, so dont want to get the wrong kit. The fork is the original on a 2012 Trek 6500 if that helps.
  • Seen somewhere that serial number contains a date code ........stamp on crown . Will read xxxxxxxxxxx. Or similar . Date is in first digits . I.e 09xxxxxxxxxx is an 09 fork . Not 100 percent sure though. Local store should advise or check online via fisher leisure the main uk sram / rockshox suppliers.

I would send to TFTUNED . Far easier and you won't loose any bits or have any extra bits when finished :-)
  • To be frank it's not difficult . I would rather do it myself in an hour than be minus a fork whilst it was serviced. Not to mention the substantial savings . Interestingly there was virtually no oil in lowers of mine something I have read is common from factory.

Sounds about right - there should probably only be a teaspoon or so anyway.

Dont be tempted to overfill the lowers I have read on the web about someone putting too much oil in and the seals being forced out. Its a small amount because your supposed to drop the lowers off and replace the oil regularly, I do mine every 3 to 4 months takes 15 minutes

  • If you overfill the lowers they will eventually hydrolock. This has happened on my Rebas and those of a mate when the lower damper seal leaks, and over time, the damper oil ends up in the lower.
As a quick fix I just drop the lowers half an inch, let the oil drain, and top up with the correct amount. Then top up the damper. IIRC the two oils required are the different weights.
