I will soon be getting the Planet X RT58 but am not keen on the wheels that come with the bike so Planet X are willing to upgrade the wheels that come as stock to the wheels below for an extra £50, so anyone here buy these wheels from Planet X how do the perform.
I was going to get some wheels from UGO but im at the top end of my budget. :(:(

If they're willing to do those wheels for £50 extra, will they do these for £100 extra?

Ask them to about PX Model B's 1650gm or C's (higher spoke count), they may do them for free or less. :)

Dude, for about 30 quid more I was able to have Ugo build up Archetypes on 6800 hubs. So smooth...

For that money I can think of several option for the £270 mark. Miche 11 speed hubs are a very good option (planet X obviously can buy the 6800 hubs for less than I can) and lighter. Good rims would the Ambrosio Evolution, Ambrosio Excellence, Mavic Open Pro. Velocity A23 and Archetype would be a tad more expensive.

£270 for 6800 hubbed wheels seems very cheap. Planet X will buy them cheaper than I can but a good wheel builder will spend 3 hours on a wheel set. They are either not paying there wheel builder much in which case he won't spend much time on them or Planet X are making hardly anything on them. Maybe Planet X wheels are of the highest standard - I would not know something has to give at this price -margin, quality or after sales service.

Wow 80 quid? That sounds too good to be true.
I bet Ugo is going to be busy dealing with enquiries today. :D

I bought some Ambrosio excellence on 105s earlier in ther year from Planet X.
Had a couple of issues with the wheels going out of true, loose spokes and then a broken spoke.
LBS said they were cheap spokes that were to long and therefore couldn't get the correct tension.
I did however only pay £179 for the pair, but a couple of trues and a rebuild later probably didn't save me anything.

Hopefully these will be better for you.

Yes, but these new ones are built by a LEGEND... I have gone all the way to page 5 on google trying to find any mention of this other alleged racing and wheel building legend, then I got bored... and called it yet another "planet X legend"

Does Paul Curran not build wheels for them anymore? I know he has recently opened his own shop in Stockton so maybe not.
