Hey folks,

New to the road section, but not to the forum. Been doing plenty of MTB riding and it's all in good fun but AM bikes aren't quite good for road riding, so looking for a road bike.

I'll keep it short, looking for something good as I can really get, carbon fork, preferably a 2-by (compact) crank, and with some comfort features and south of £600
Considered
2014 Trek 1.1 - £600
2013 Giant Defy 4 - £479.99
2014 Specialized Allez - £600
2013 Merida Ride Lite 91 - £595

Wisdom of the forum - do your thing :)

Trek or Specialized as both have latest Claris gearing.

Go second hand and you will get much much more for your cash.

I previously sold a Cervelo R3 for not a lot more than your budget - it was all top notch gear but about 6 years old so nobody wanted it but still a top class bike. Try and buy from someone you know or a forum like this one.

2013 Trek 1.2's and other similar bikes are on sale for £600 or less if you check out the current sales. These will all be 9 speed and tend to have carbon forks if you want to buy new and have the backup of a good local bike shop.
