What do people think of this:
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/corr ... -prod75527
Its a carbon road bike with full Ultegra including cranks, brakes etc for £1125.
It is made by Corratec, which there does not seem to be much information about on the internet.
It is also 2012 model & only in Medium.
Is this worth a shot for a first road bike? I hope so, as I have just ordered one!

Nothing like asking for advice after you've ordered something
Looks reasonable to me though 8)"Arran, you are like the Tony Benn of smut. You have never diluted your depravity and always stand by your beliefs. You have my respect sir and your wife my pity"

Given that your username is Big dave 3 better hope that that is not a reference to your height on a medium frame.0

nah im not big. im 5 ' 10" , I just couldnt think of a username & that was the first thing that came to mind.
I could still cancel it or send it back. I thought I had best order one before they sell out, as it seems like brilliant deal to me/

I reckon you could be ok on a medium."Arran, you are like the Tony Benn of smut. You have never diluted your depravity and always stand by your beliefs. You have my respect sir and your wife my pity"

Medium looks like an effective top tube length of 55.5cm. I'm 5.10" and a bit and ride a 56cm. If you're Mr Average, like me then the frame size is probably ok. You can always buy a new stem, if required.“Training is like fighting with a gorilla. You don’t stop when you’re tired. You stop when the gorilla is tired.”0

OK thats good to hear.

Yeh - medium frame size should be ok.
As for a better bike for the money? I'm not researching the market completely but sounds a reasonable deal given the groupset involved. Colourscheme doesn't do much for me on the link but then we're all different I suppose.0 -
Yeah I Know what you mean. The colour scheme looks pretty crap, but as long as the bike gets me around fast & is a nice ride, I can live with awful colours!/

I researched all the components when I was comparing the Race & the Pro & some of them were not actually that great or standard. For example the crankset (FC-565) was not even 105 spec. The brakes (BR-R561) were not Ultegra or 105 spec & I read on one of the reviews that they weren't that great. The spec of the pro on the cube website did not match the spec listed on the shop site. In fact, there seemed to be a bit of variation. It certainly wasn't all 105/Ultegra spec. Maybe they took some components off & put cheaper ones on hoping no one would notice?
BUt the Corratec is all Ultegra drivetrain, I'll be checking it over when it comes. The frame may be a gamble though, as the Cube frame is a known & does get good reviews.
Maybe i have made the wrong decision, not sure yet./

Again, the Planet X Pro is a bit misleading, as it is not actually all Ultegra. IIRC, the crankset & brakes may be the same or similar to the cube. They are not standard 105 / Ultegra/

Don't think you can go wrong with the Corratec, great looking bike with a great spec, read a couple of reviews and came out good, lots of advice being given here but no-one seems to have ridden one, and its a better spec than all others recommended, I think the PlametX has non series brakes.
Enjoy your new bike.0 -
I wouldn't get too hung up on the chainset etc, the Planet X is a tried and trusted bargain road bike with a certain functional sex appeal that the corratec will never have. It's also a light bike, only about 8kg all in.
If I was buying at the moment it would be well up my list at that price.
I've seen corratecs in the flesh and there is nothing about them that inspires me to want to ride them. Horses for courses though!0
