Hi all. Im after some buying advice. At the moment I'm riding a hybrid - my nice little Specialized Sirrus Comp 2013. Im thinking of upgrading to a road bike. Just to try and make my commute a bit quicker. And stop road bikers whizzing past me quite so easily :?

What do you reckon would be a logical choice? I'd quite like a triple chain set because I'm short, dumpy and need some help climbing hills. I rediscovered my love of cycling less than 2 years ago. I commute 3 times a week (20mile round journey) and go out for a 50 km tops ride at the weekend. I don't race or anything like that (maybe one day).

I've got my eye on a Trek Domane 2.0 at £1000 which is my max budget. The cheaper Specialized Secteur Sport Triple 2013 also interests me - but would this choice be a step up or a step down from my current hybrid?

Any advice would be very welcome - thanks! :)

  • Thanks, good to hear you rate the Trek. I think it might be the right choice. Just need to start negotiating with the wife now...

Think about something from planet x as well. the deal on the Pro Carbon is very good. I have a secteur that is my winter bike and its nice an comfortable but not exactly well specced (also look at the disc brake version), the Domane is the better bike of the 2 but have a real shop around. Best advice is buy what fits and you want to ride.
Life isnt like a box of chocolates, its like a bag of pic n mix.
  • I'll do that Simon. Thanks for the advice.
