Hello peeps, been a while but I'm back again !!

My Mrs was going to get me a car but tbh, i dont really need a car as only work about 15 minutes ride away.

This had me thinking, if she was going to get me a car and I dont need one, she could possibly get me a new bike instead, and as we were looking at cars between £4000 - £9000, what kind of bike could I go and get ??

What would you spend and what would it be?
I dont want to be greedy but again, want a half decent bike instead of a car.

The Mrs has a car so we use that when we go away but as its a little C1, it wont carry a lot but ideal for her and work and to commute my 3 year old to the creche.

Any input would greatly be received, I've been away from the biking scene for several months due to moving, work etc but want to get back into it again.
40 mph in a 30 zone officer? nah, I've only been out for the last 5 minutes !!

I'd ask your missus what she thinks is best for you.
I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles

Get a car for a couple of grand and spend the rest on a bike.
Scott Speedster S20 Roadie for Speed
    Specialized Hardrock MTB for Lumps
    Specialized Langster SS for Ease
Cinelli Mash Bolt Fixed for Pain

No need to spend up to the lower amount let alone the full whack to get a top bike. Your choice is limitless Canyon, Giant, Scott etc etc. a full Di2 can be had for £2699 and lower and then get a car with the rest, best of both worlds.
    Have fun choosing. :)

I dont see it right that I need a car though, tax, insurance, fuel for it to be not used much especially when we have a car.
The other thing is that as I live in a flat, we have only parking for one car so not sure where the other car would be parked.
I would not be greedy, maybe £2k on a bike would be nice as my commute to work, consists of half of the time being through an under pass.

Well if you dont need a car, blow half on a wicked bike and the rest on a cycling holiday.

Maybe it's just me, but 2K on a bike for a 15 minute commute seems a little excessive.

Not when I pay out to stay with a road bike club and have not been for a while, whole idea of a decent bike is to live, breath and sleep on it lol

So it's not just for commuting 15 minutes ? How about the new Cannondale supersix evo.

How about a Venge or an S-works Tarmac SL4? or a BMC Teammachine or a top end Scott Foil why stop there...get the most expensive bike you can because it will make you a pro...or get a bike that's suitable for your ability and the type of riding you'll do...from what you've said an aggressive race geometry bike won't suit you.

Get a custom built in your own colours and tell the Mrs she can have a new handbag/shoes.
Life isnt like a box of chocolates, its like a bag of pic n mix.

  • I'd ask your missus what she thinks is best for you.

Can I borrow your missus for a few weeks please?

If I was splashing out that sort of money I'd be getting a custom build. Either a good, top of the range steel bike (someone on here has had a beautiful build done recently) or a Legend both with Campag Super Record EPS.

Good choice Sir, especially as Legend build some nice steel frames as well!
