Hi
Here's the question, if one wishes to buy a racing tandem suitable for TT'ing over both short and long distances where do you start looking? Who produces these things these days?
Thanks,

Dolan is a good place to start - http://www.dolan-bikes.com/tandem.html
Trek and Cannondale also have racing tandems in their lineups - probably lots of others too.0 -
Here's the one Hutch and Yates used:

^ that is a machine! Look at that chainring! Non crossover timing chain as well - unusual.
Co-Motion make some very high performance machines - the Macchiato etc.
Our next tandem (not for racing) will be a Co-Motion - they are beautiful machines. Just cost rather a lot.0 -
They way Hutch told it he was bricking it as they were doing 70+mph downhill towards a roundabout. Bigger stones than me, that's for sure.English Cycles V3 | Cervelo P5 | Cervelo T4 | Trek Domane Koppenberg0

Must be terrifying on a time trial tandem - your head resting on the captain's arse/lower back, so no visibility.
Not for me either thanks!0 -
There are some nifty carbon fibre tandems around.

Cannondale stopped making tandems a couple of years ago - despite them being well-regarded. However, they are back making them for 2014 apparently. Not sure what the model line-up will be like.
Trek also seem to have stopped making tandems.
It's such a niche market that it is not of that much interest to the big manufacturers. There are many parts that are unique to tandems making it hard to source those cost-effectively (compared to the parts they are buying for solo bikes in the hundreds of thousands).0 -
A teammate of mine uses a Paketa - sourced from the US. http://paketabike.com/index.cfm?page=paketa_v2_tandem
Rates it highly. Also seen some tasty Calfee tandems at races although they probably cost a pretty penny. Dolan and Co-Motion are your standard options in the UK.0 -
My mate has a decent old fashioned steel frame with modern components on it (groupset/trispoke etc). Goes like brown stuff off of brown stuff on it.... And it looks beautifulhttp://www.georgesfoundation.org
