Hi,

I've posted a few threads recently about my new road bike and its issues. I bought a Felt Z95 online in a sale for £499 but it arrived damaged. Long story short they have said they would like to upgrade me to a Felt F85 free of charge. Should I accept the offer?

Always better to accept free upgrade :-) , although they are different types of road bike. race/sportive type I think
  • True. That's what I said to them on the phone, that I opted for the Z95 due to the geometry of endurance. However its going to be my first ever road bike and he also said that you can manipulate the frame to fit you so that it is more endurance based.

As long as they are both 2013 bikes it's definitely an upgrade, so I would say yes!

The F series is a different geometry from the Z series so it's not really like for like. The F series is a pure bred racer whereas the Z is more comfort oriented. The F85 is a great bike mind you, if the geometry suits your riding style. Have a look at the specs on the Felt website (http://feltbicyles.com for 2013 models http://2012.feltracing.com etc for older models) and compare them. Otherwise, you could ask them to upgrade you to a Z85 instead!

Its a bit like speshs allez vs sectuer, My first tries on road bikes and I couldnt tell too much difference, so chances are it might be fine

As far as I can tell the Z is the 'sportive' option. They have more of a sloping top tube which means you have a lot of seatpost showing. Also a taller head tube for a slightly more upright riding position.

I think the F series look nicer

Yeah, they are both 2013. When looking at groupsets I am getting Tiagra with the F85 as opposed to Sora. Will I notice much difference?

Will I notice the comfort difference? I have not test rided an F85 as initially it was above my price range. Also I would have like to ask for a Z85 but they do not stock it any more, there are only a few left of the 2013 models and this would be the next closest one. The next one is over £1k in value so I highly doubt they'd do that..

Did you really need the Z in the first place?
Seems to me that a lot of people are buying overly relaxed road bikes and they might be doing you a favour by offering the F ;-)
  • To be honest the Z95 was out of my price range at £649 but I managed to get a deal for £499 which meant it sat at a good price for me. I just loved the look of it really and at £499 it was a nice bit of kit for the money at entry level. But now I could be getting a bike worth £799 for the same price! I think I should accept it.

the geometries are not that different, if teh F is too low at the front then stick a spacer or 2 under the stem and you've pretty much got the Z geometry. Plus you get Tiagra instead of Sora which is a tad nicer looking, go for it.

The stem would be at the top of the steerer tube so the OP would have to flip it (and probably move down the steerer tube) rather than add any spacers.
The benifit is that Tiagra is 10 speed as opposed to Soras 9. Personally I think the new Sora looks better, but would go for the 10 speed given the choice.
