I'm glad everyone who spots a bargain doesn't post it, we would be inundated on here.....

Come on Micky, you must have something more worthwhile to contribute than that?

Stick some decent wheels on that Cervelo and it would be a very very good performing bike.

  • There should be a bargains thread :)
  • Not seen a Dark Edition R3 before. Looks better than the regular one!

Think that's the one that's a repainted R5. I was in my local Cervelo dealer the other day and they have got some coming in. Full 105 on an older R5 frame fro £2000 seems like a bargain to me. Shame the budget won't stretch.
  • Little hazy on what fork it comes with though - anyone know whether it's the FK33 which ships with the R5 or the FK30 on the standard R3?

Probably (another!) stupid question, but I'm looking for a relatively comfortable bike with similar geometry to the Giant defy as per my thread here - viewtopic.php?f=40042&t=12936071

Would this bike be suitable, as it looks stunning and it's a cracking price, or is it a more racing geometry, I know nothing, lol?!

Not sure I buy into the whole sportive/race geometry thing. Selling my Defy as the frame is too big. Looking at other options geometry's don't vary a huge amount in the other bikes I am looking at.

Broona, you mentioned the PX Pro Carbon and RT58 in your other thread. Geometry is not hugely different between these and the Defy. I think the key is getting the right size and a geometry that fits your body type. You can get a racy position on Defy as well as a more relaxed one depending on your body type, the frame size you go for and the length of stem you choose. You don't have to know anything to bring up the geometry for the two frames and do a comparison. Take that info to the shop and see what they advise.
  • That's a fantastic deal- the 2013 R5 frame was £3500.

So you'd get £500 of groupset, and about £300 worth of finishing kit added to that...for £2000 total.

Seems like a winner to me!

Broona- it has quite a tall headtube, so you can get a slightly more upright position- lots of people race them though (myself included). It's not as comfort-oriented as some bikes marketed as such- the R5 is a stiff frame and you do feel the road through it.
  • Just lookin' at the Cervelo website and I like the look of the The Limited Edition S2 Black. Again, looks much better than the regular S2.

Great thread Solboy10, want a new bike now!

This seems like a total bargain to me too.

Spoke with Primera who confirmed it's essentially an R5 (due to surplus) and at that price, seems a total bargain.
Will need a new wheelset to do the frame justice, but theres nothing close to this for this price is there?

Couldn't agree more. I used to ride a Defy, and then upgraded to a TCR as I wanted something I could potentially use for the odd TT or hill climb, and I actually found the TCR even more comfy than the Defy

Good to hear Ricky. Just bought a Ribble R872 which is more TCR like than the Defy. Just couldn't get on with the Defy, never comfortable on it. Hope to do some TT's too and the 872 with clip on bars will be ideal.

  • There's no chance they'd sell just the frame is there?

I guess that would work out at around £1500 so similar to the R3 frames. You could probably sell the groupset, wheels and saddle for c£450. the question is - is this really a better frame than the current R3?

They've obviously got a fair few lying around, could be a good chance.

Isn't the dark edition a new 'model' and the standard price is 2k? It's isn't a sale price I didn't think?

Not wanting to set hares running on this but I was informed there were 80 of these to land in the UK.

Think I've decided against one, but looks like an awesome bike for the price.

2 k for a bike with r500 wheels? each to their own.

Have to hand it to the cervelo branding team
