Hi All,

As a relative newcomer to cycling, I would be grateful for a recomendation for a LBS to take my bike to be repaired.

I have a problem with the rear mech - I have another thread asking for advice - but never having taken a bike to be repaired before I am not sure what to expect.

I live in Hinckley, but, happy to travel to most places in Midlands.

Cheers,

Kev

Hi Kev, for any mechanical issues I can't fix myself I've found Paddox Cycles in Rugby to be a good shout. Very friendly and reasonably priced, worth phoning in first to check how busy they are/how long the repair will take.

yes. I've bought shoes in there, but a colleague wasn't too impressed with the service nowadays.

I was in Julies cycles on Saturday with a mate who is looking to buy a new road bike and has about 2k to spend. I thought any shop would be bending over backwards to assist and help get a sale but it appears not in Julies. Basically they were no help at all which surprises me unless they have such good sales that this one didn't matter. It was a Saturday afternoon and it was not busy so I was not impressed with them. Maybe just a bad day at the office for them but I wouldn't rush back there.

Pedal Power in Loughborough, very good.

He's staring you in the face. Page's Cycles, on the corner of Rugby Rd, Regent St & Lancaster Rd just round the corner from the library. He's been selling me bike bits for more years than I care to think, and knows his stuff. Proper proper LBS too - small place, smells of bikes, Aladin's cave of stuff, and Mr Page is the nicest bloke on the planet.

Julie's is where those new to cycling or inexperienced go. Once bitten, twice shy as the saying goes. Nothing particularly wrong with them other than pushing numbers and being more expensive. I bought my very first bike from them which was completely the wrong frame size (now I know a thing about bikes).

You could also try Lutterworth Cycles although you have a shop in the centre of Hinckley.
I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.

He is good and always good for an interesting chat, but he has a sign up saying he'll only do work on bikes that he's sold because he's so busy.

Me neither - bought my first bike from them in 1997 (!!) and was helped by a nice chap but subsequent visits really put me off. Expensive and generally cr@ppy attitude; which is in stark contrast to Paul & Yvonne at Cyclops in Syston and the aforementioned Pedal Power in Loughborough - both very good.

    Another vote.
  • Happy to update! I took my bike in to Bikes and Sports. They quickly assessed my problem, left the bike with them and was repaired the same day.

Fantastic service and would happily recommend Bikes and Sports to anyone.

    Cheers,

    Kev
  • I know you're sorted but Pages down the road from Lloyds bank have always been helpful & good with advice. He does have a sign saying he only services bikes bought from him but he's looked after my wife & my bikes for years & we didn't get them from him. Builds up nice bikes too.

If you're in Warwickshire, a new bike repair shop has recently opened - http://unleashedcycles.co.uk/

They offer a pick up and return service too!
