Hi, I like quite a few of you on this forum bought a Scott CR1 frame and I'm slowly collecting components for the build.

I noticed on Merlin and Ribble that the 10 speed groupsets are heavily discounted at the moment - is this because the 11- speed ones have just been released or are they normally this cheap?

Also is it likely that availability will dry up? I've not got the funds right now, but am worried if I don't get them now I won't get another chance. If I have to now, it will be 105 where I was hoping to save up for 6700 Ultegra.

You can still get 9 speed (and indeed earlier), it is just that the masses want the latest thing so companies discount the current stuff to shift it on and make room.

It then goes the other way after a few years and the 10 speed will attract a premium.

I have 9 speed on my CAAD and it is much better than the 10 (and consequently the 11), due to component thickness, it is just that there are no deals to be had when I require a replacement item.

So in short buy the 10 speed now in the conficence that you will still get the bits for years to come.
    Yellow is the new Black.

I can't see 10 speed disappearing that quickly purely because of the hub issue, 8.9 and 10 speed are all compatible with the same hub but you require a new hub for 11 speed.
This put me off buying 11 speed because I've got three different sets of wheels that rotate around different frames, I was stuffed unless I sold everything.
It makes me wonder whether 11 speed is selling that well because it's not so easy to upgrade, you'll still get it on new bikes but you've got to spend more for a basic upgrade now.

OK decided to order now, but go for the 105 groupset - looked at the weight difference and it was about the weight of my Sky TV remote - which I can put up with.

immm maybe, i would nt be rushing out to buy 10sp grp sets - i suspect that they ll stop production of the 9/10 sp stuff, leaving us with whatever is in the dealers.
The change to the new wheel system is what will drive this for them.

They haven't even stopped making spare parts for 8-speed. 11-speed is going to be just too fragile for most riders I suspect. 10-speed already wears out far too quickly compared to the 8-speed stuff I have on my tourer - most irritating!

Some 2012/13 spec Mavic's just need the spacer removed to fit 11 speed.
