Bottom Bracket Advice

Hi
I treated my self to a high mod Synapse frameset on Friday. The idea been that I could build up what I wanted and learn how everything is put together at the same time.
The first thing I am trying to sort out is the bottom bracket. I know I need a BB30 and its press fit, however do these come in different sizes as I can see to find any, also am I able to fit an Ultegra 6700 chainset with one of these as I cant find a Shimano BB30.
Thanks
Chirs

You would need adaptors. Question is - do you have the chainset? It not then the usual route is to buy a proper BB30 chainset and the rest of the groupset being Ultegra etc.0

Thanks for the quick reply.
That fits as I noticed that if you buy the complete bike with ultegra it has ultegra everything except the chainset.
I was looking at buying the groupset from Merlin as they seem to be quite cheap at the moment. I looked around and if you mix and match from different shops you can buy it all separate for around the same money, so mite do that but buy an FSA chainset instead. Or even go down the SRAM route if theres a cheap enough red out there.
I take it if I use the adaptor I will loose some stiffness and obviously gain more weight.0 -
Can I just double check that this is all I need? As there dont seem to be much there?

Yes, that is all you'll need. BB30 saves weight as it's just a couple of bearings which are press-fitted to the bb shell. Don't worry about loss of stiffness or additional weight when using an adapter. You won't notice either.0

I find its easier to put one bearing in at a time, easier to keep the bearing square going into the frame.https://www.instagram.com/seanmcgrathphotography/

Everyone will know you have one too, due to the incessant creaking. You need a BB30/Hollowtech 2 adaptor anyway if running Ultegra cranks but don't use the BB30 bearings due to the inherent weakness of the bearing position - use something like a Praxis or KCNC which uses the regular HT2 bearing design.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0 -
Another good alternative are the plastic SRAM adapters. I use one on my Cayo Evo so I can use Ultegra cranks on the PF30 BB shell and it's been perfect. No creaking and no appreciable loss of stiffness.0

Thanks for all the replys
I have decided to move all the 105 and FSA bits off my CAD10 onto it and then just slowly upgrade bits as they burn out.
Makes more sense as theres nothing really wrong with them. That and the other half has started moaning about spending more money on bikes
I have bought a new FSA BB to drop in and then hopefully my old BB30 chainset will fit.0 -
Will you be selling the bits you are taking off?https://www.instagram.com/seanmcgrathphotography/
