Sram Red Front Yaw Deralier

Ive heard people using the red yaw deralier not with sram red cranks, and working perfectly well - e.g FSA SL-K light. Any opinions on this? I have a Sram s950 crankset and wondering if it may work? or just not worth it.

You need the shifters to go with the Yaw derailleur for best results. As you know, the yaw controls diagonal movement of the derailleur not just across the cranks removing the need for any trim control. Older SRAM derailleurs are made to be set up so there is no chain interference when riding in extreme chain angles so small cassette to large crank and vice versa. With a yaw derailleur, I wonder how it will cope with the extremes of Q rings?I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.0

You dont need the shifters, although the best shifting can supposedly achieved with the new shifters. But I'm running the yaw derailleur with the older version of the Sram red crank set and Sram rival shifters and it works great. I get zero chain rub in all gears except 34 11 but why would I ever use that, the chain rubs the inside of the big ring anyway at that.

Something isn't right if you're getting chain rub off the big ring when cross chaining 34-11. Even without a SRAm yaw FD you don't get chain rub when cross chaining if it is set up properly. As regards doing it; sometimes it is convenient to just use the extent of the rear cassette for short climbs rather than change rings on the front. SRAM no doubt had this in mind when they designed the front shifting. That isn't to say you should do it for long periods or you risk damaging the chain.I ride a bike. Meh, I've seen plenty of comments on it before with compact chainsets. I did wonder if it was shim related on the crank set as the further to the left the more angle and hence more likely to touch the inside of the big ring, I just double checked it on the mrs bike and that did exactly the same on a full Sram rival setup. So I don't think there's any issue.
I never get anywhere near the bottom of the cassette when in the small ring so it's a non issue.
The teeny tiny rub I could get on the FD if I were to do it could probably be removed with more time spent adjusting but 99% of the time I just use the big ring and use the full 23-11 job done then for the steep hill's I've got nice high gear... hence why I like the compact set up.
kinda a bit off topic .0 -
I do have the 2013 red shifters, along with 2013 force the rest, and the S950 crank - it should work?0

Running a 50-34 with the 34 on the rear 11 and NOT getting a bit of chain dink off the big ring? Somehow I doubt what you claim. :roll:0
