Hello
I am a complete newbie to road bikes and want to buy my first. I have a budget of £750.00.
I have had a look around a few bike shops and am torn between the following;
Wilier Montegrappa Xenon 2013
http://www.cyclesuk.com/48218/products/ ... -bike.aspx
Specialized Allez Sport 2014
http://www.cyclesuk.com/10491491/produc ... n-red.aspx
I like the look of the Montegrappa much more than the Allez, however this wouldn't be the reason for purchasing one of the other. One has Sora and the other Campagnolo shifters. Which is better?
My head is in a spin at the moment!
Can anyone out there please help?
Thanks

test ride both and your soon see which you prefer....and which fit you better....their both quite different bikes.
Theres not much in the two groupsets its more personal preference....shimano can sometimes be easier to get hold of for parts but theres really not much in it tbh0 -

Hi turnerjohn
The problem I have is CyclesUK is the only LBS (learning the lingo already!) that stock the Wilier and to test ride from them means I have to leave a deposit for the full price of the bike and I'm just not prepared to do that.
Because they are similarly priced, my simple head means the main reason to choose one over the other would be the shifters.
For a newbie like myself, which would be better? Sora or Campagnolo?
My understanding is Campagnolo Xenon has both a trigger and a paddle behind the brake lever, whilst Sora just has a paddle. Is this correct?0 -
Hi, I might be a bit late with my comment as its a month after the post but I am new to road cycling and got a Wilier montegrappa in jan. been really happy with it! Looks much nicer than most other entry level bikes I looked at. Most importantly rides well too. My local bike shop is a wilier dealer and managed to get a test ride before buying. Helped out as I couldn't find any reviews of it on the net. Would definitely recommend it. Only poor point on the bike were the maxxis tyres it came with as they puncture v easily! Soon changed them and all is well Hope this helps.0
