Hearing mixed views on Garmin's Premium H/R monitor, so i'm wondering, should I go for the standard one?

I had problems with the premium strap (under/over reading) especially pedaling into the wind or on descents.
I tried changing the battery and using ECG gel. After some reading on the net I bought a Polar strap like this one.

I have only had it a month but so far so good."You really think you can burn off sugar with exercise?" downhill paul0 -
I have used both and noticed no difference in performance, the premium one being a soft strap i did find to be a lot more comfortable.0

I gather any issues have been with the strap itself and not the detachable sensor?0

I've just bought the premium belt (and also the Polar replacement belt). It's a little bit more comfortable perhaps, but almost unnoticeably so.0

Yep that has been my experience. Just to clarify, I have only changed to a Polar strap. The detachable Garmin sensor fits this."You really think you can burn off sugar with exercise?" downhill paul0 -
Have had the Premium for a couple of years and it works just fine for me. The strap gets rinsed under the cold tap after each ride and, erm, that's about it. I've got on jersey that can occasionally inspire it to give odd readings (must be prone to static), but that's only happened on two occasions out of hundreds of rides and then only for a couple of seconds.Mangeur0
