Hello,

Another dull 'what bike should I buy' thread I'm afraid, but after months of looking I'm genuinely stumped. My criteria are:

1) Budget is £1500, could squeeze a little more if needs be
2) Will be buying it on Cycle to Work Scheme, with a top up of my own cash, so that rules out Canyon, etc...where you buy direct, especially direct from overseas
3) Carbon frame (I have a great Alu frame now, if I'm upgrading, I want something significantly different)
4) Good groupset (I currently have Tiagra, definitely want a step or two up, but don't have a preference between Shimano, Campy or SRAM)
5) Sportive/comfortable geometry - I'm not a racer

I've whittled it down to the following two:

Planet X RT58:

Mekk 3G Potenza SL5.5:

I think the frame on the Planet X seems better/more suited to me, but I'm more drawn to the Ultegra groupset.

Any thoughts? I think I need some help!

Thanks!

Nick

If you're willing to go to 105, the Potenza 105 is at a good price at Edinburgh Cycles: http://www.edinburghbicycle.com/product ... sl-5-0-105

They had those below £1,000 for a weekend a few weeks back. If they've got more sales coming up you could save more.

Hi mate, FWIW I was in Planet X the other week and they had an RT58 fitted with Ultegra and they said they would be happy to fit Ultegra instead of Force for the same price, so I wouldn't rule that out!

I spoke to PX yesterday re the RT-58 as I am interested in it myself. The guy I spoke to said they were out of stock until October! Shame as I am looking to offload my Alu Defy in favour of the RT58 or a Focus. The Focus Cayo Evo 4 is another option and will be in budget when shops discount for incoming 2014 models. Focus only sell through shops now so CTW not a problem.
