Looking for a new bike (with Cyclescheme) and want to stay away from "retail" stores (Evans etc), has anyone had any experience of the following shops?
Eddie McGrath in Urmston
Geoff Smith in Bolton
Threadgold in Wythenshawe
Ron Spencer in Warrington
Appreciate any advice

Anything in particular you are looking for?
I have been in Geoff Smiths a few times - there's been a bike shop there for decades, though I think it was a different name when I was a kid. Seems OK, but not bought anything. He seemed flexible on options areound frame colour/groupset combinations on Orbeas.

I've been looking at the Defy 2, but not fixated on it. Got £800 to spend and it seems the best "off the peg" bike/spec for the price given the Tiagra set0

I was gonna go to Geoff for my bike but went with a specialized from another store. pretty sure he can order in whatever it is you want but just give him a phone call if he ever answers.i find that if you just talk, your mouth comes out with stuff - Karl Pilkington0

If considering a defy, consider buy-a-bike up at Heath Charnock. That's where I got mine at a VERY good price last year. The name suggests pile em high sell em cheap, but they do carry a LOT of good stuff.

I might have a drive up to Buy-a-Bike and see what they've got/what they can do..0

Yeah, BuyaBike are worth a visit if you're after Trek/ Giant. They also have stock of Base bikes and others....
Also might be worth trying Merlin (Leyland)?0 -
And merlin are quite close to B-A-B too.Giant Defy 2

That Bianchi is a decent looking bike for that price and is Tiagra

Certainly looks nicer than the Defy IMO.0 -
