A Good Saddle Has Completely Transformed My Bike

I guess veterans all know this but I didn't realize just how critical the saddle was. After finding the ride of my first bike in 35 years (a Defy 1) a little harsh I did a little research into saddles. I ended up deciding to to go with the recommendations on the Specialized site that a Toupe RBX Expert would suit my riding style. The transformation in ride experience was astonishing. I was thinking that I was going to have to unload the bike and spend another grand for a decent carbon fibre bike but, low and behold the Specialized BG saddle has saved the day. Yay!!!!!

Interesting post - care to explain more?
What difference has it made, just comfort or do you feel it's led to better performance as well somehow?
    cheers

Surprised you got it in one, from the sounds of things its a lottery and people end up spending loads on saddles before finding their ideal seat.

    Agee to this.
Had a Felt saddle - alright - but not the best!!
Tried a Toupe but did not think it worth the additional cost i.e. the difference was not substantial enough. Tried then a Alliante. It was alright, but then started to get heat build up in the crotch area...

Now at a loss as to what to try next!!

Based on recommendations I got fitted for a Specialized Romin 143mm. I don't get 'gentlemen's numbness' any more. I think it's the same design as the Toupe.

I got a Specialised Toupe Pro and it's really comfortable.
They sat me on some memory foam in the shop then measured the indentation from my sit bones to ascertain the correct width saddle.

+1 for the Toupe pro here, suits me perfectly and really comfy on long hauls as well as steady climbs
