New wheelset

Hi,
Having broke 2 spokes on a ride today and the freehub noise getting worse looks like I'm needing a new road wheelset. Currently riding on the giant p-sl1 wheels that come stock on the giant defy comp 1. Looking for wheels that are light, have some aero benefits and also are easily serviceable. Like the look of the American classic 420 aero 3's but people keep mentioning handbuilts, but I'm unsure or what rim/hub combination so suggestions welcome. What is everyone's opinions? Any suggestions?

I'm a 60kgs so relatively light and will be used on rolling terrain, live in the North east close to the NYM. Budget would be around 500-600, but if something floats my boat a little above or below then I don't mind.

Thanks,
Simon

@ 60kg you'd probably get away with factory wheelsets as they are rated up to 150% your weight in most cases.

Handbuilts - you get what you want, could build them yourself and might get longer lasting wheels, but there is a reasonable chance they'd be heavier than a lightweight factory wheelset.

Factory - Good range of choice, the bundles are often better value than the parts to get handbuilts, you might be able to find something light/aero and within budget, but you might get lower quality spokes/hubs on some, and you rely on the wheel having been built well by a robot...

I suspect you'd get more aero/light with a factory wheelset, unless you look hard for handbuilders or can find the bits and build yourself. But definitely consider 32-36 spoke with quality rims if you want the wheels to last

Lots of choice in the handbuilts that I or ugo to tell you about. Also handbuilts do not have to heavier than factory. I ride a set of clinchers that weigh on at 1362g and they are my regular wheels. My winter bike wheels weigh in at 1550g and they are reliable for me at least.

Handbuilt does not need 32 spokes for such a low rider weight to be reliable.
