This sounds interesting. What is this??what does it do and does it work.
    Thanks for any info.
  • I wouldn't bother.

Other than the ritual of covering our legs with the stuff, it does little to actually warm your muscles, and they're basically irritants that stimulate blood flow on your skin surface.

Use the time you'd waste touching yourself up with grease to extend your pre race warm up ride. Most riders think trundling down the road talking to their mates for a few hundred metres is a warm up. It isn't.

It is a bit of a ritual, but it's one I'm kind of stuck in. I use the Morgan Blue Competition 1 & 2 stuff - lasts pretty well.

A lot comes down to personal preference and obsessive rituals! I used to play a lot of footy and that seems to be one sport that is riddled with folks wearing 'lucky' socks, 'lucky' routines (left sock before right, etc.) and my hangover from that is applying Deep Heat :) I do feel that my muscles benefit from the good massage that goes with the application and that, followed by a spin-up at the start of a ride combined with a stretch session at the end, does help me...or least that is how I feel...or rather, not doing part of my routine stresses me out.

All the evidence seems to confirm that a decent warm up session is what is really required and I haven't seen any report that mentions Deep Heat as a suitable replacement for that. As posted above, all embrocation is really just a skin irritant which has no chance of really warming the big muscles involved in cycling.
  • Only benefit from sprts rubs in the race HQ is the fumes possibly help to clear any congestion in your head :D

The only stuff I'd bother putting on my legs would be Baby Oil if it was wet, as it helps to shed water thus keeping muscles a little warmer. That Baby Oil gel was great for this. Also makes showering road grime off a little easier....

I'd recommend warming up, but I also use this stuff.

    Westerners are generally magnesium-defficient.
