Dura Ace calipers

Want to get my braking sorted as I'm just not happy with it.
Yes I've tried many after market pads
Would Dura Ace 9000 calipers work with my 105 5700 levers? If not would changing the levers to Ultegra 6700 help?

Shimano will tell you they have different pull ratios but in reality it makes little difference. It will work, just not to the optimum, which given your aim is probably not what you wish to hear.
105 are good enough for most.Yellow is the new Black.0 -
Not sure why 5700 levers would not work with 9000 calipers. 5700 levers are compatible with 7900 calipers (same pull ratio) and 9000 calipers are compatible with 7900 levers (7900 and 9000 have the same pull ratio) so my understanding is the 5700 levers would accordingly work with 9000 calipers.0

I just want my braking to be better and I'm prepared to pay to get it.
I'd also want to make sure that if I change my shifters to 6700 or 6800 the calipers will still work.
I had a sheep run in front of me on a downhill today and despite being full on both brakes I just didn't slow I thought I was a gonner!
Would it be a simple unscrew and clip in the same cable and all good?0 -
are they set up properly? I have 5700 on my winter bike and just use stock shimano pads. I have no problem locking up the wheels with them, even in the wet0

Yes. The 5700, 6700, 7900 and 9000 are all the same pull ratio and given 9000 is the same pull ratio have to assume the 6800 will be the same.
By the way although the pull ratio is the same the modulation on the 9000 is different from the 7900. Last week I tried a new set of 7900 calipers vs a new set of 9000 calipers on the same hill, same wheels and there was a noticeable difference. To me the 9000s felt much better, I was surprised how much more braking control they gave, whereas by comparisonthe 7900s felt either on or off.0 -

Does the bike slow/stop when you pull the levers? If so, they work.0 -

Lol, yes it does. Just not to my satisfaction! Don't get me wrong the brakes work and 99% of the time it's fine. But it's those occasions where you need to stop, now, which I'm having issues with.

You might be expecting too much. In most situations, your braking is limited by the available grip between the tyres and the road, as opposed to the brakes themselves. And on a road bike that ain't much, so it's never going to be brilliant...0

could be worth cleaning your rims...could have got a spot of oil or grease on them...doesn't take much.........0

There is a noticable different feel in terms of 'bite' and modulation between my dura ace brakes and the Tiagra on my wet bike. Both bikes run the same pads though different wheels, both stop but there's no doubt the dura ace calipers inspire more confidence.0

Some similar answers to a question I posed. In terms of braking I have just got the Ultegra 6700 (now available fro £44.99 btw) and I do feel they are an improvement on what I had, BR75 something or other.
