Hi everyone,

Started riding more mileage on my road bike to increase my fitness and feel it might be time to stop using my MTB baggy shorts and get some bib shorts as everybody seems to rave about the benefits of them!
I'm looking to spend no more than £50-£60 and less if possible. Can anyone recommend me a good pair for this sort of money? Had a look on Wiggle and there are some DHB ones around that price.

And some Gore ones

Any others I should be looking at, doesnt have to be on Wiggle?!

Endura FS260-pro can be had for about £60 - they are excellent.

They are better than the Gore ones I have, I think they might be Gore contest.

The dhb kit from wiggle is very good. Another brand of shorts I really like is lusso. They are made in the uk and definitely worth a look. I have two pairs. One foam pad the other gel and both are hard wearing and super comfy.

Got Altura Airstream Bibshorts from wiggle last week, did 58 miles wearing them on Saturday, so pleased I just bought a second set...

£40 or less depending on your level at wiggle...

I have been impressed with the bib shorts from Decathlon, they have a few in the £30-50 range, the ones I use were about £40 and I favour them over a more expensive "branded" pair I own.

I have the Howies ones. They are superb for me and extremely comfortable, of course YMMV.

They are very stealth looking. That works for me, may not work for others though.

Thanks for the other suggestions guys! Will have a look at the ones you have suggested. At least I will stop getting funny looks for wearing my baggies by the roadies round this way

Another recommendation for Decathlon bibs from me.

I was in the same position as you the other week, looking for bibs around the £50 mark. I spent an afternoon in a couple of bike shops giving various pads a good squeeze and there is a lot of variation at this price mark. Ive heard the DHB ones are really good but I was reluctant to buy without trying them on (and because I needed some in a hurry!). I think testing them is a good idea if you can because the pads definitely fit differently and may not suit your shape.

From memory (and in my opinion) the pads in the Gore range at this price werent that impressive, and the Altura Airstream pad also seemed a bit thin. The LG bibs from Evans were also very unimpressive.

The Altura Progel pad looked ok but the shape didnt work for me, whereas the Endura FS260's pad was fantastic but I couldnt justify upping my budget to the £65-odd asking price (these and the DHB aeron Pro's seem to be the two bibs most frequently mentioned on here).

When I visited Decathlon I was pleasantly surprised by their Bibs, specifically those with the orange pads. They basically have 3 different pads to choose from, with the orange gel-filled option being the top of the range and for me comparable to the Endura pad. They have a few different items with orange pads, starting at £42 for the 7 series bibs, though the colour options are a little garish. I went for the 7 series 'supportiv' which has the same pad with a more modest black design for £45. They also have the aerofit 9 series bibs with the same orange pads, as worn by the FDJ team in this years Tour de France- £75 I think, but you can get the same shorts in an unbranded colour scheme for just £50, so go figure!

I wore them for a London-Brighton trip this weekend and Im very pleased with the support they gave, so would recommend having a look if you have a decathlon nearby. Its always good to save another 20 quid on the endura's too in my opinion!

Thanks for the info Adamkalin. Unfortunatly no decathlons in the North East of England (I think, but if anyone wants to prove me wrong its much appreciated!) So will have to be an online purchase, I'm erring towards either the DHB's or the Decathlon ones if I can get them online.

Wiggle have good customer service so I suppose you could always order and return them if all goes wrong! You may want to order a couple of sizes and then send back the one that doesnt fit as well. I was convinced that I was a medium (all of my other cycling kit is) but I ended up with Large size bibs as these were much more comfortable around the shoulders. Its always a bit of a gamble if you're unable to try them first.

I have just replaced my fs260 pro's with dhb aeron pro's. The enduras have served me well and been an excellent bib short, although I found the pad a little on the large side. The dhbs are in another league altogether though and the comfort and pad are excellent.

Another vote for Lusso - I have the pro gel 2 and they're a great piece of kit, plenty comfortable for 4+ hours in the saddle.

I was looking around and have always fancied a pair of Castelli bib shorts so just bought a pair of the Velocissimo Due's from Evans after price matching Probikekit who've got a selection on sale at £64.99 - 69.99 instead of £80+. Can't wait to get them now as every review sings the praises of the pad and fit on these.

Another +1 for the Endura FS260pros - very high quality for the price.

I would say though, stick to the washing instructions and wash them inside out, othewise the reflective will end up peeling.

I got the Gore Power 2.0's a couple of weeks ago and they're superb. I can highly recommend.

I rode with my new Castelli Velocissimo Due bibshorts today and all I can say is they're worth every penny as the pad has made the ride much more comfortable for me and there's no chaffing whatsoever. I originally ordered a medium as that's what the size guide said and would say it would've been fine however I then tried a large and just had that little bit extra stretch over the shoulder which felt more comfortable and as my legs grow I think they allow for more flexibility where the medium may have been over stretched. All in all quality kit for a good price currently at PBK.
