I'm not biting at all (don't flatter yourself - if you can't even use an apostrophe then you're never going to be bright enough to get under my skin, lol), just laughing at what a knob you are0

I could take offence at that.0 -
Did 17 miles on it this evening and the suspension's now creaking (total mileage around 130 miles, all dry weather, no pressure washing). Arse. Sounds like it's probably coming from the linkage. Might strip it out and investigate tomorrow after I've washed it, or might just leave it, since the replacement frame's due imminently. Not very confidence inspiring though - if the pivots can't cope with 130 dry miles, what's a British winter going to do to it?... :roll:0

nice bike thou :P0 -
Cheers, but I'm starting to think maybe I should've paid more for the Trance... :?0

Get what you pay for (teasing)
Yeh get int he bearings, lift the seals out flush regrease pop it together seen a few bikes with dry bearings no idea why.
dont spray them with WD 40 though0 -
Take it back while you can.0
-
what take it back and get a decent bike?0

Thewaylander wrote:dont spray them with WD 40 though
Really? You don't say. I would've thought a water dispersal spray would've been ideal lubricant for bearings...
Oddly enough, when I got the bike out this afternoon to wash it and prep it for tomorrow morning, the creak had gone away, so we'll see what tomorrow's riding brings.0 -

Unfortunately we don't all have deep pockets.0 -

if you dont like it take it back or sell it on as nearly new might be able to make back most of your cash and call it a learning experience or take some place and get it fixed probably not halfords thou0 -

I do like the bike. Good spec for the price and rides well, I just have reservations about long term reliability. As for taking it somewhere to get it fixed, why pay someone to do something that you can do yourself? I was going to remove the shock and strip the linkage and grease it up yesterday, but when I got the bike out of the garage to wash it and prep it for today's riding the creak had gone away. After 17 miles round Gisburn today it's still fine, no creaking (although there are a couple of new scratches on fork crown, bar end and left crank arm after crashing it on rocks, grrr). My new frame's due any day now anyway.
Crash was just a few feet before the spot this guy bins it, so it's not just me, lol (well it wasn't just me today either, i wasn't the only one who binned it there):

It wasn't even just me yesterday, lol. I manged a rather slick bail out, landing on my feet walking, so it looked like I'd just got bored, thrown the bike away and started to walk instead, lol, so only my pride hurt, but another in our group crashed twice on that same section (and she went down pretty hard on the big rocks, since she was clipped in to SPDs), and the lead rider of a couple of guys riding through hit the edge of one of the rocks wrongly and went over his bars while we were watching them pass, lol.
You have to laugh at the irony though (well, I laughed anyway) - the first time I crash my new bike is on a course called "Stop Crashing, Level 1" (right at the instructors feet), on a section that I've ridden down without incident on four previous visits to Gisburn (including on my old Carerra hardtail with cheap XCR front fork, and one time on a 29er that just steamrollered straight over it all)... The instructor agreed that my dismount was pretty slick too though. Bit annoying scratching my fork crown and crank, but a few scars are inevitable on an off road bike, and at least it wasn't the stanchion.0 -
I've been into the swamp there, I caught up with a family who'd elected to stop on the rocks. I only noticed when I got close and had nowhere to go. Stop. Nowhere to put my feet. Muddy.0

Mmm, lovely, lol. Did you climb out looking like the Creature From The Black Lagoon? I landed on the rocks, so a firm footing. It's still reasonably dry down there currently, apart from a few spots after the recent rain. The previous times I've been down there the trail's been bone dry. While we were working on that section a bloke came through with (i presume) his daughter (around twelve years old, maybe), he had a helmet on, but she didn't - great parenting skills there. Shame they didn't see the crashes, it might have made him think.0 -
The suspension linkage creak's come back today. Hmmm.0

unlucky    :oops:0 -
My new frame's due now, so it's no big deal, but it's not confidence inspiring.0

Get your new frame, build the bike up properly yourself and sell it. Feedback on this thread alone doesnt read well. Judging by the prices things fetch on ebay you will make more than the new price paid anyway! Until they rape you for the fee at the end of the month.0

i would agree with this, build up the new frame and sell the bike on, you've had too much hassle with it.
I was out yesterday with a mate on bikes and saw a couple of boardman team fs, I remembered this thread and wondered if they have had the problems with the bike that you have.0 -
Really sorry to hear your suspension is creaking now. Only good thing is it shows its not just me!
I'd be interested to see what you find.
I greased the pivots in the rocker and it made a creak dissapear.
Don't forget those rear horst pivots though. The death of both my fs's
I did some bearings on my mate's 2004 spesh Enduro lately and was annoyed at how much better made and designed the pivots are considering its 9 years old. I've definitely learnt my lesson with full sussers - don't buy a cheap one.0 -
Russyh wrote:Get your new frame, build the bike up properly yourself and sell it.
I had considered that. I'll definitely be doing the build myself - not letting Halfords' untrained gibbons loose on it.0 -
speaking of halfords i was in there 2 day watching a guy try and fix gears i can only guess he was a trainee or a retard im no mechanic but im guessing muttering come on work and pedaling the bike round on a stand thing isnt going to help the gears.i might be wrong.0

I might strip the linkage out and grease it just to have a look and familiarise myself with it, but I don't know if I can be bothered, since I'm getting a new frame anyway. Which ones do you mean by the rear horst pivots? The pivot where the linkage joins to the seatstays?
Did 23.4 miles this afternoon, creaking all the way, lol (and getting an impressive array of bright red scratches on my left forearm and a couple of small cuts on my calves - the vegetation round here's vindictive, I think I need to get a 3/4 sleeve jersey). I thought maybe it was my old knees, but it's definitely the bike... It didn't creak at all at Gisburn for my skills course on saturday, but then started again during Monday's ride.

That's just on the river next to the rowing club (hence the racing boat, top right corner) just up from Saltaire (which is home to Salt's Mill, if you know your Victorian history).0
